Earl Aelfheah
Hi, for those of you who aren't already aware, there is a new campaign to re-open Peckham Lido ( http://peckhampeculiar.tumblr.com/post/94561844474/lets-reopen-peckham-lido ). If this is something you would support, there is a petition you can sign here:http://www.change.org/p/southwark-council-re-open-peckham-lido?recruiter=22054042&utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petitionThanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/48434-peckham-lido/ Share on other sites

vgrant
this is true. PeckhamRose
It is a lovely idea and I remember when I first moved here it was open and very popular. But, in the days when councils are wanting to spend as little as possible and even offload the running of the parks to Friends of Parks type groups and voluntary organisations, do we really imagine this Council will have the funds and drive to open up our Lido again? On the other hand, loads of money has been found to build the new fitness/gym/pool at Elephant so why not?And it is at the north end of Peckham Rye Common and last year Pull the Other One hosted the Village Hall Experience on the site. It would be good to do something at this site, and for a few years a Peckham City Farm was suggested. I wonder if the Friends of Peckham Rye Park have been contacted. Nigello
An outdoor facility, especially if it offers food, drink and a place for "community" activities would be a good companion for the trad indoor pool at the DLC. It'd work, but only if it were heated and open year round, early till late (at least in the summer) and if the impetus to get it off the ground continued well past any initial hoopla. I hope it happens: good luck! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/48434-peckham-lido/#findComment-777651 Share on other sites

david_carnell
Heated? Yeah, way to go on the whole climate change issue. Heating thousands of gallons of water to maintain a 25 degree temp in Peckham in Feb? Good work.
