Happy New Year everyone.

I'm still recovering from the NYE bash at The Rye. Not quite as fantastic as the very first one in 2004 (when the Rye's arrival and opening was like an amazing gift from the gods to those of us living on the borders) but awesome nonetheless.

The incident splattered evening was great fun and featured:

- A very warm and friendly welcome from the bar staff

- A great DJ

- A drunken fireworks display (set off by a man with a pint in his hand) - of water I'm sure.

- Bare breasts! (Thanks for that)

- A flashing fellow Scotsman - chiplolatas ahoy!

I still cant get over the breasts...not sure how this compares with the CPT?!!

Edited for legal reasons.

I missed the..... exposures later in the evening as my posse required that I take them home about 1ish, but mostly concur with MrBen's report. Whilst not on a par with the first one a few years back I think I spent too much of the evening comparing the two events instead of just enjoying myself. In the end I had a ball

As someone else noted it was expensive for what it was, but to my mind there aren't that many occassions where I get to dress up proper-like. An interesting mixture of people too - one chap in particular who appeared to be "inspired by" Russell Brand gave good value already, but when someone else related the next day that when this was put to him at about 3am, he replied "on a good day I get Jonny Depp, on a bad day David Dickinson" I hooted some more

We got to spend time with birthday-boy Mike P who judging by the hour and demeanour of his subsequent posts enjoyed himself enormously. Lady MacGabhann got to have a proper boogie. Eva gave me more free fizzy drinks than I was permitted. The DJ was clearly nuts. I mean, what's not to like??

Oh and retiring at 1am did have the added advantage of me not suffering the fear the next day. Took my guests over to the Nuns Head for a spot of burger and chip therapy and it was clear that most of the staff hadn't seen bed at all - I wasn't sure if I was jealous or relieved

Actually AFN I found myself in your neck of the woods last night and popped into the Golden Anchor on Eveline Road.

Now, you probably wouldn't have the balls to go in there yourself because I fancy up you're far too up your own preconceived Nunhead but if you do ever pop in there you'll find a very nice and friendly predomninently West Indian pub that plays great old reggae tunes and the brothers playing dominoes in the front bar. I liked the look of the food on offer and shall be returning soon. Great Guinness too by the way.

    • We have just got Eddie back for the second time! Great a clearing weeds, lopping bushes, etc. Reasonably priced at £16 per hour. You can contact him on +44 7742 044722
    • Agreed, the skate park should remain, especially with all the work those involved have put in to get it up, running and maintaining that enthusiasm.
    • Southwark is closing youth centres day centres they’re not going to spend millions on opening a new community space. What that area needs is a good supermarket. The nearest one is Sainsbury’s in Forest Hill. someone else may well know of the mechanism where a council can make a compulsory purchase. So the supermarket underneath with three or four stories of social housing long top built in the same style as the Dulwich estate.Next door.
    • I'd also like to recommend Paul! His colleague Damien did a super quick and neat job sorting out a kitchen socket for us which had stopped working. Paul is very easy to communicate with and it's great to know there is a reliable and skilled electrician in the local area. His number is 07802627967
