Birthday trip with 8 year old boy - recommendations?

My son is turning 8 next weekend.

Any ideas for a special family trip that day?

He hates museums, restaurants but is up for all physical

activities.

I am a bit clueless here.

If you don't mind a drive of about an hour Hobbledown is great but fairly pricey. Caters for a range of ages too. http://www.hobbledown.com

Go to the Olympic Park. Lots to do incl a Helter Skelter. Take him for something to eat at Cafe Football at Westfield. Food is really good.

Son and daughter at 8 loved:

- Imperial War Museum with hot dog style lunch.

- Science Museum and Launchpad + demonstrations of explosions, rockets.

as well as perennial favourite Horniman Museum.

Bedgebury Pinetum

Mine went ice-skating and bowling for a couple of birthdays at that age.

The extreme aqua splash session at the aquatic centre is brilliant.

One and a half hours clambering over inflatables in the stunning olympic pool.

Leeds Castle also has Go Ape. My son and husband did the course when my son was almost seven, and it was a really great adventure. Can't imagine a climb-y kind of boy not loving it. Plus you have the castle grounds for the rest of the day, and with that entrance, the "key to the castle" for the rest of the year. If you're feeling extra adventurous you can stay for the Knight's glamping, which I fully fully recommend.
