Sadly Tony I did realise how polite you were trying to be.. I know you are champing at the bit to let rip about not just the people your self-made-businessmen dealt with were unscrupulous, but their familes and children as well.

But as ever, the question would remain - why single them out? Why not ask your business buddies about all of the people they have had to ... be robust with. Or how much of my pension they are salting away in some tax haven? I'm not really trying to have a go at them or you , but I'm not going to listen to how morally sound one group of people are compared with another. Go speak with gypsies and ask them how often they have been screwed over by people. Human stories are the same in all walks of life.. to suggest that somehow gypsies deserve to be singled out for opprobrium is not being politically incorrect - it's just wrong

By all means do tell of the times you have been done-over by individuals belonging to gypsies, business-men, Paddies etc - but to generalise like that just leads to entrenched positions on both sides and ain't helpful in the long run

:))Sean:Personally I have had as little dealings as possible(virtually nil) and I'm being perfectly honest.

So I'm not talking thru' my pocket.Indeed I can give you the names of around 150 individuald who did us over at Racing Stadiums by not repaying "credit" or conning us in a variety of ways(what naive idealistic fools we were back in the day!:))) and there's no excuse as we were 40 years old when we started!..and none of them were Gypsies but I would be lying if I did not say that "invariably" I have heard from a multitude of sources that when they "visit" for a while trouble(of various types) follows as surely as Night follows Day.

Of course there are good and bad in all groups but "more often than not" if things go missing in Country areas then the Police's first port of call is usually any local Travellers Site and that would be based on "previous"...more later..

The only problem I've had in my road was when my next door neighbour almost had his motor-bike stolen(found out later that 2 bikes round the corner had been stolen)....These were professionals! They even turned up with a Ramp(!) to accompany the van to nick the bikes and the culprits were???

Answer:You won't need to phone a friend!B)

Right, it seems my off the cuff remark about travelers has caused a bit of ill feeling in east Dulwich. One thing I wont back down on is that I simply don't trust them and and probably never will. I work in the construction industry and have come into contact on several occasions and every encounter has resulted in disaster. I do not however wish racially motivated violence upon them or any member of their community, this opinion of my character was was caused by a frankly stupid comment I made about delivering an explosive device to a traveler camp. This is the last I'm going to say on the subject but I will always observe the traveling community with negative suspicion based on the way they have treated me in the past, end of.

We should not generalise ABOUT ANYTHING....

.

I.personally, take great offence at Millwall fans being tarred with the same "HOOLIGAN" brush! I first went to see them in 1961 and in the next 30 years until 1991 went to 78 different grounds To support them away and only missed 6 Home matches in those 30 years.Since 1991 I have been less frequently.

I have never in my 54 years been in trouble with the Law and neither have any of my small circle of fellow Millwall fans who travel with us when playing Away.

Millwall is a byword for hooliganism so why should me and my friends be tarred accordingly??

I WILL TELL YOU WHY!!

From 1962/63 when Carlisle and Blackburn Fans had their heads smashed in at Millwall which I witnessed as a kid thru' the marauding 1960's thru' Plymouth ending Millwall's record 59 Home game unbeaten run and having their supporters coaches virtually destroyed in 1967 I have seen trouble after trouble at hundreds of Millwall matches over these 47 years and they would have been so nuch more if The Police did not do such an excellent job these days!

Remember this was when "hooliganism" was hardly known at Football matches.

So it continued thru' the 1970's when Millwall played at Stoke/Chelsea/West Ham/Carlisle/Middlesbrough/Bolton/Burnley.Brighton,in fact virtually everywhere:X

In the 1980's it reached its nadir at Luton where the Police were viciously attacked and David Evans(Luton Chairman) got vilified for bringing in a "Home Fans Only" scheme after the 1985 debacle.

Endless battles galore Home and Away week-in/week-out eventually decade-in/decade-out,but all I'm saying Guys is "there's good and bad everywhere".Indeed there was one incident at a Charlton in 1976(I think) when one fan got arrested so there's your proof "hooliganism can happen anywhere" so do NOT generalise PLEASE!

What are you on about?

Seriously.

What's your point? Are you seriously asking us not to generalise after you've had a good rant about Gypsies 'in general'?

Or are you pretending to be ironical.

How did we get from the postie in the brown bag to Luton v Millwall in the 1980's?

The internet is a wonderful thing...

My point is SERIOUSLY,that some people are living in denial of the fact that some groups or Communities DO have certain traits or characteristics. Its so obvious to me,blatantly and ridiculously so and yet some are frightened to recognise this it seems, which makes me wonder why that is and what they are afraid of.!

Thats "denying" that there ARE certain traits,be they positive or negative, that CAN be found in certain Communities over and over again,ad infinitum,ad nauseum.

When you have a gathering of say,100 BusinessMen and Women and they "all" or "virtually all" say the soame things about one person or "generalise" about a "group" then there's an excellent chance that they all, independently of each other,ARE NOT WRONG...and yet some people will do anything NOT to realise or accept this which is quite incredible.

Yes we DO know that there are "exceptions" to every rule and yes there is "good and bad" in every Community but to hear or read what some people think they either fail to recognise this(which is virtually impossible if you live long enough) or their mindset refuses to accept this as it opens an unsavoury "can of worms" but frankly I find it insulting as it makes a mockery of what many people have experienced for, literally decades with certain Groups.

Yes, a Rev Horton Heat CD and a bank statement if you're interessted.

I also received through the parcel post a Screaming Blue Messiahs vinyl record, though I missed the postie as I was in the lavatory. I went round to the sorting office and collected it as they very obligingly stayed open until 3.00 pm. Well done I say to them.

Never encountered a Gipsy the whole day, sorry to go back on topic.

As you were.

I've got a Bikini Red vinyl album at my parents' place if you want it - will need to get up in their loft but let me know.

Went to see them at 100 Club about that time and was mistaken for Carl McCoy out of Fields Of The Nephilim. Happy days.

As you were.

I'm impressed that you were mistaken for him out of the 'Neph Ruffers, especially at a SBM gig. Did you have have 'dust' an' that falling off of you?

Thanks a lot for the offer of Bikini Red, but I've bought it on vinyl, with nothing to play it on yet, but will do it so at some point.

In the mean time this will be a happy home...

The hat was old, a hat I'd had pre Mission, and had been most recently worn, as I recall, at an exceptionally flour-y gig in Bromley for which I'd forked out for a B&B. The venue remains hazy, Civic Hall or something? Felt more like a Parish Hall and the B&B felt more like a naughty seaside gaff for a Mr and Mrs Smith (not the posh version).

Happy days.
