The toe excuse annoyed me - the way he got it out straight after the fight and stuck it in front of the camera. Nobody likes a bad loser.

Haye did nothing on Saturday to warrant a rematch. It seems that his tactic was to stay out of harms way, and throw the occasional wild swing hoping to get lucky... and falling over. He did get in a few good punches, but Wlad soaked them up and responded in kind. So where does he go from here? Retire? Look for one last fight? Hang around and try to pick up another version of the title?

I think a rematch would generate less interest than if Vlad fought somebody new, though Lord knows who that might be.

Haye's activity did not warrant a rematch, it was not close, it was not a controversial decision that needs to be redressed.

Also, after the grief given to Klit bros by Haye, it would be a good final trump card from them to say no rematch, they screw him in terms of HW world championship aspirations, for good. So he'll be forced to retire.

What else can Haye do, all the belts are held by Klistchkos. Unless Haye changes weight he can't GET a world title before October retirement date. Haye could fight someone at HW but it'd be a money fight, not a (world) title fight

Sweet revenge for the Klitschkos if they turn their backs on him, I would if I was them, all this decapitation stuff was childish.

I've always been amazed at how the Klitschkos have not been obliged to fight one another, they're both highly ranked by all major belts and must surely be in the mandatory list as challengers for any belts they do not hold, this proves the best don't fight the best. You can't have a family monopoly on a weight division in Boxing, it's peverse and unequitable. If it was tennis, athletics you'd have no issue in this respect. The fact that's it's boxing isn't an excuse, the sport was always about fighting the opponent, so no point complaining I can't fight my brother when you get to the top.

I think Haye will retire, there's nowhere left at HW. I shudder at what film roles he'll be chasing but he should concentrate on that now, I presume it'll be Arnie-type films, but he really needs to lose the goatee, a moustache perhaps but not that goatee..

Not so. I don't know how these organisations determine their rankings, but before the weekend, neither Klitschko was in the WBA top 15.

Probably starring alongside Jason Statham in The Transporter 7.

WBA - really, I didn't know that, very strange (based on how I thought the organisations worked), I thought that you had to be a 'member' of a belt's organisation to challenge for it.

"Probably starring alongside Jason Statham in The Transporter 7."

You're joking right.

I saw something on BBC website saying that Calzaghe is going to be in some film, haven't read the detail but I did wonder what kind of film that would be too..

He'll slide into obscurity now.

Really, who'd want to see a film starring "the heavy weight who broke his toe" that is DH. I mean bless him for his valiant efforts and all that BUT in movies after failing to do what he set out to do.

As for the goatee/tache combo. Get rid of ASAP it looks rank & while your at it crop off the barnet too.

Nette:-S

I think the idea of hw boxers having a film career is old hat as they look cumbersome & slow compared to the martial artists/parkour exponents used for action stuff these days. Lewis/Klitschko in Ocean's 11? Tyson in Crocodile Dundee/Rocky Balboa? He may end up fighting wrestlers or doing 'I'm A Celebrity...'

Oh lordy lorks.....

David Haye is asking for a re-match against Klitchko.

Quoted from the Bbc website:

Haye is only interested in meeting a Klitschko before his planned retirement in October and, with the brothers refusing to fight each other, the Englishman is their only obvious opponent.

Please spare me the excitement.

It was a desperately boring fight wasn't it, my baby has a mobile that rotates above his bed with two things spinning in proximity but never quite touching, and I can vouch that it is positively mesmerising compared to that 'spectacle', and also neither of the spinny circles are twats.

Mind you neither did either of them get into haydn wassername's pants either.

I don't think the fight was as boring as many claim. I find WK impressive to watch - while he's not an all-action fighter, he's skilled in defence and ring generalship. But it should have been better, and I blame Haye, he seemed to be completely out of ideas after a couple of rounds.
  • 2 weeks later...

Kevin Mitchell mixed spells of boxing with spells of brawling to get the indefatiguable John Murray out of there in 8 rounds. I think this is a good win for Mitchell who perhaps should concentrate on getting local/European bouts for a while before challenging at the world level again. I really hope his alcohol etc related problems are behind him and he can continue to improve. Early in the fight it did look like Murray was going to continue walking through every shot from Mitchell, surely Murray's (anybody's) shelf-life is shortened by using the taking of punches (a la Hatton) as a tactic ?

Marquez beat Ramos in an unconvincing R1, it did look like a feigned KO form Ramos, whether it was or not. This leaves Marquez having had no testing warm-up bout before he faces Pacquiao, for the third time, later this year. Perhaps he'll squeeze another in before the ?

Ricky Burns had a R1 non-fight as Nicky Cook's back gave out a few seconds into the fight. Nicky cook hadn't fought for 2 years but was somehow entitled to challenge for the WBO strap he'd held for a few months about 2 years ago. How that was authorised escapes me !

Roll on Froch v Ward.

I saw Burns/Cook in the pub. Surely it's obvious that Cook's back gave out, but Burns was trying to claim that it was some sort of wonder-punch.

As for the fight being sanctioned, I don't think it's a problem. The mandatory fights (in theory) are when they face the organisations's top challengers. Outside of that, they're free to make whatever fights they want... whether it's a big money fight, a unification fight, or simply the fight the fans want to see. Without these optional fights, the biggest fights would never happen.

Yeah I guess I know the logic, and there's no doubt it was genuine back agony for Cook, but I am dissapointed when a bloke who's been running a bar for 2 years get a call to take on the World Champion and lasts 90 seconds.

He shouldn't have been in there and it's a disservice to the fans, regardless of what money gets made. I know nothing will necessarily change, but boxing fans deserve better.

I read that Burns said something like "Once he felt my power he wanted out" !

Probably because Khan can't help saying things like

Pound-for pound, I'm way ahead of all the other British fighters, and I think people know that.

If people watch it, it's because they want to see him get knocked the f**k out.

A shame, as it should be a cracker, but he just isn't very likable I'm afraid.

I think it's the Bolton accent.

I haven't quite put my finger on why the fight hasn't intrigued me more, maybe deep down I think at this stage another Roach match-up is a foregone conclusion, but then Maidana was that close to KOing Khan.

Dunno.

But last weeks Murray/Mitchel contest and Burns/Cook contest were of more interest to me.

I'd even adopted the mindset of wondering whether there's any decent contests on this weekend.

It really doesn't matter who's the 'best boxer in Britain' to be honest. The whole thing is subjective, split by weight and depends ultimately on peoples' own preferences. Froch would beat up Khan so who's the best boxer.

Bruno could probably even now beat up Pacquiao so who's the best boxer. Doesn't make sense.

One thing that interests me about Zab Judah is his trainer who was an amazing boxer, with almost supernatural talents.

Pernel Whittaker. Won't be staying-up for it though.

I do recommend anyone who hasn't seen the Mitchell/Murray fight to check it on YouTube, though.
