The Bird In Hand is rough as old boots. It used be quite a good boozer years ago and I'm talking decades now. It's been rather sad to watch its decline over the years. A little known fact is that The Bonzo Dog Doodah Band played there regularly when they started out in the 60s.

Yes.

Well, 'sh!t' might be a bit strong. Not good.

I've just moved my yard to an arch in Deptford

There's an old and interesting looking pub nearby on Lower Road

The Farriers Arms. I caught a glimpse through the door yesterday, I shall visit and report back

I think it qualifies as an old (mans) boozer

"TGE is my local. It's within spitting distance. Great beers, sh!t food. Much improved version of the CPT though."

I live less than spitting distance from TGE - dribbling distance in fact.

Food not sh!t at all. There may be the odd questionable dish but generally it's ok. The staff are very friendly, gracious and typically quite bright.

Haven't a favourite pub in ED, but if I blend TGE, The Castle, Franklins (depending on company) that's probably my combo fave.

Their roast is almost always abysmal. Chicken is the best one, but the lamb and beef are both awful. Pies are burgers pretty naff too...even Byron burgers are cheaper and nicer. Sometimes their spicier dishes and salads are ok - the Mexican and Jerk chicken I've had have been better, although the chicken is always dry. Ribs and wings ok. Have had good fish and chips. But it is hit and miss. I don't know, maybe they have two different chefs? Thinking about it, I do like their chips, but that's all they ever seem to get right. I go for the beer. 'Sh!t' was a bit harsh, but it's not great, especially for the price. Mind you, it's hard to find good pub grub around here full stop tbh.

So basically anyone who isn't yet dead. Times change.

And then it's back to the ball and chain for another week eh?

The Flying Pig might have moved on a bit since you last went in. Almost always busy at weekends

Although it's entirely my choice to define it so, I really can't call any 'bar' / pub that wasn't built specifically as a public house, a boozer.

So Flying Pig, no way. It's two rooms one which has a bar which sells craft beer, the other is a restaurant...if that's a modern pub then I'm joining the bah humbugs.

Even worse, a bar that was a pub, now calling itself a bar

Mind you, in contrast to that, Franklins was a pub (The Victory) but is now a bar/restaurant

What my point is exactly, I don't know. But i'll sell a couple of these tablets here for a ?10
