I am considering carrying out a loft conversion at our house in East Dulwich and would be keen to hear of any recommendations in order that i can get a few quotations.

I appreciate that there are a number of older threads covering this topic but would be keen to hear of any peoples recent experiences (either good or bad.

Many thanks

Just picking up on this thread to say don't go for Landmark Lofts. Not one of the usually mentioned ones on this forum but well known in SW London and looking to spread to SE London. We've in fact just withdrawn from using them rather than incurr further agro down the line as their after-sales conduct left us with no confidence in them or their ability to deliver. Their pre-sales service is very slick - one of the reasons we went with them was the fact that, of all the companies explored, they were the only one to actively follow up with us. However, after signing the contract we were the ones constantly having to follow up on queries/emails. Don't believe what their website says about their architects' experience in dealing with the 'unique challenges' presented by loft conversions if you want anything other than a standard dormer ? we had to get another architect to put forward alternative possibilities more in line with what we were wanting which they then adopted. Also, if you are seriously considering going with them, make sure you ask them about their project start policy before you sign the contract with them so you don't get any hidden surprises on timeframes.

We had our loft done about two years ago and we're still very pleased with the results. We used a company called 'loftlife'. We have had a lot of building work done but of all the builders we used this company did the best quality work and were the most professional. It was an extremely stressful time for us as I was pregnant, but the loft conversion was the least stressful (compared with some of the other people we'd had in) and they finished two weeks ahead of schedule- one of the reasons we went for them was because their contract stipulated they would pay back ?100 for every week they went over the deadline.

The quality of the work was good. I would suggest being careful when selecting a loft company - seem to be a lot of dodgy ones out there- this one was recommended to us by a friend of a friend. It's worth trying to see some work by the company before you decide to instruct anyone.

    • If you are that bothered, why don't you ask the people at the mosque what the situation is, and let us all know? 🤣 I live round the corner and I hadn't even noticed an awning, let alone one "half hanging off". If you think it's a safety hazard, that's a different issue, and one they may not be aware of, in which case you should definitely let them know.
    • I guess, in a few weeks we will see if he is still a councillor or goes back to teaching 🤔
    • What happened with the Heygate was absolutely scandalous. The lack of accountability is shocking.
    • Because the previous Libdem/Tory coalition council did so much better? ....Oh wait. Selling off the Heygate at a bargain price and reducing the number of council homes it replaced? Being in opposition is so much easier isn't it James.  The point on allowances etc is a valid one, and that is about finding the right balance between the responsibility of those cabinet roles and the role of service that should underpin all political aspirations in an ideal world. Holding down a full time job, while having to attend meetings and then deal with case work on top, is a huge ask imo. People in key roles need to have the time needed to do those roles effectively, so some renumeration makes sense. It's just a question of where the balance should be. McAsh has walked away from that, so his convictions are doing more talking than careerism arguably.  Worth pointing out that most MPs started out as party/ political activists/ campaigners on a local level. Different parties have different processes for selecting candidates, but everyone starts out at a low level.
