James
Isn't "late-night tromboning" some sort of euphemism? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4731-late-night-tromboning-on-goodrich-road/#findComment-152844 Share on other sites

Keef
Damn it, saw the title of this thread but *bob* & Loz had both gotten there first!A friend of mine who actually plays the trombone searched for "tromboning" on facebook in order to network with musicians, and got a real shock! *Bob*
How about an HILARIOUS trombone joke..?Someone asks a trombonist: "What's the subdominant of F major?"The trombonist is confused: "What??? I thought F major was the subdominant!" Fetch a needle and thread.. my sides, my sides.. Keef
I don't even get it... Is it suggesting that a Trombonist can only manage to play in C? jaybee82
I was going to refer to the culprit as a tromboner, but that doesn't really sound any better. Pretty glad I didn't confront him about it this morning though... Keef
Well *bob*, as I'm sure you know, F Major is indeed the subdominant of C, so I was guessing it was saying they were limited in their ability or something... Other than that, I'm lost. For the record, the answer to the original question "What is the subdominant of F Major" would be Bb Major.Get me :-SStill not getting the "joke" though Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4731-late-night-tromboning-on-goodrich-road/#findComment-152871 Share on other sites
*Bob*
Is C a particularly easy key to play on the trombone? With this remaining piece of the joke jigsaw slotted into place, one may proceed to fall about laughing at will. Is the trombone a maligned instrument in the Brass World? Like violas in an orchestra? Let's talk trombones. Keef
Actually it's probably one of the harder instruments to play (I played trumpet, what do I know?).Anyway, did you know that until the later Baroque period, an instrument called the Sackbut (now that is interesting when you take in to account the modern meaning for tromboning) was used, and this evolved in to the modern trombone. Loz
There's definitely a good jazz (in the original sense of the word, of course) night here. A couple of people tromboning, a few people with some hard sax, someone on the organ and at least one person banging the drum. As soon as Keef replaces the G-string on his guitar, it's everyone down the Goodrich Road...
