Angusvanfrehley
Not that I liked the place at all but better than another empty retail space. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46919-adventure-bar-closing/ Share on other sites
Louisa
ED has grown in confidence as a predominantly family orientated area. LL is therefore losing any attempt it had ten years or so ago to become another 'night out' destination. The likes of Adventure Bar and Drafthouse who would have shown an interest in those early days are no longer viable in this area as families take over from singletons. It's all about Peckham these days for that sort of thing. ED is about food, coffee and gift shops these days. A kind of Northcote Light. This is why the likes of Adventure bar do not work anymore, and Jack Wills, Space NK will follow on behind the cinema. Maybe Adventure bar would work better on Bellenden Road? Louisa. DuncanW
Having lived in ED as both a singleton, through to married with kids I can honestly say that Adventure Bar has never had any appeal to me in the slightest. It looked like it had got lost on the way to Croydon. northlondoner
Louisa how DARE you? Bellenden Road is way too stylish to host the Adventure or anything of that ilk. No self respecting hipster Peckhamite ( not to mention middle aged blow-in like myself) would draw much pleasure there. Duncan's Croydon jab is cruel but accurate. DaveR
As mentioned on another thread, the rumour is that Tsunami are opening.http://www.tsunamirestaurant.co.uk/I have no idea how likely this is to be true. Earl Aelfheah
Louisa - what's this obsession with Space NK? I've only ever heard of it through your posts.Adventure Bar was awful. DuncanW description is spot on. If Tsunami opened there I would be very happy indeed. Jah Lush
The property is far to small for a Tsunami. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46919-adventure-bar-closing/#findComment-765732 Share on other sites
El Pibe
I think overanlysing there Louisa, I suspect it's closing because it's basically awful! Just like the first wave of alcopops disappeared; there's only so much oversugared alcohol anyone can cope with. Help-Ma-Boab
Whatever happened to the other poster who was setting up a cocktail bar? Cant find that thread but they seemed to be near sorting venue, talked about food etc. They reckoned HoT wasnt much cop. Radio silence. Earl Aelfheah
The first bit of your post (below), I think is broadly true. Although this could change with the new cinema coming. May be able to sustain a few more bars (or at least the ones already here). Adventure bar was always just bad though.Louisa Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> ED has grown in confidence as a predominantly> family orientated area. firekat2
Thank God it is closing down, it is a eye sore and the last time I went in there it stank of urine and bleach. ????
Much repeated by me but I never got East Dulwich as a destination for going out unless you lived here or very near (excluding the old Comedy Club). I lived in Camberwell for years and never came here in the evening except for a Sunday night curry or the Comedy Club - Inside 72 was good but worth travelling too? Camberwell and Brixton were far livelier and later and if Peckham was like it is now then I expect I'd have gone down there too.
