VicCraven
East Dulwich Picturehouse tweeted 19 minutes ago that so far 157 people have become founder members, so looks like there is still plenty of opportunity to become one of the first 1000 people to be included in the specially commissioned art installation within the new building. Louisa
Maybe if they didn't spend time hiring artists for this hippy nonsense, they could invest in keeping the ticket prices low. You don't see Peckham Plex doing all this stuff and look how cheap they are. I'm not bad mouthing them for the sake of it, just wish sometimes these businesses would invest in keeping prices low for cinemagoers, because that's why most of us will be using it, not to look at college grad arty nonsense. vgrant
someone has to keep white middle class arts graduates in a job - grafitti is cool dontcha know. Unless of course its by black kids from the estate up the road, then its vandalism and they should throw away the key Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46792-east-dulwich-picturehouse-and-caf/page/2/#findComment-764924 Share on other sites

Earl Aelfheah
My EDF bingo card is almost full. So far I have 'middle class' 'Guardian' and 'trendies'. I just need 'yummy mummies' to get a full house. Louisa
The street art scene is a poor attempt to get 'down with the kids'. If the kids from the council estate were involved and helping out with the project I'd have some sympathy, but judging by the pictures they're not are they? It's a very left of centre, right on thing to do- slightly embarrassing for those of us who just want a nice place to go and watch film at affordable prices. Louisa. vgrant
Hippies and their ilk are never left of centre - this is a pop up emporium dish of cultural appropriation and theft, marinated in greed jus, dressed in the clothes af middlebrow culture. Louisa
Oh don't you worry rahrahrah, what with the cafe you'll have more than enough opportunity to use that phrase. They'll no doubt be clogging the place up with bugaboos and screaming kids most daytimes. Louisa. Nigello
It's nice and a good gesture from EDPH whilst they undertake the building work. If only the folk at the "art house" as was would do the same: the hoardings around this house at the Heber/Lordship bus stop are already tagged, as I knew they would be when they went up in their sparkling whiteness a few weeks ago. If anyone has any in with this development, give them a nudge to clean up the mess and keep it cleaned up. Cedges
Utter imbeciles, daring to try and make a building site less hideous. How dare these nicompoops try and provide an asthetically pleasing environment for us. They should clearly be shot at dawn.Honestly! LondonMix
Thanks Victor for posting the pics. I don't have facebook at work but have they indicated who the artist is? Earl Aelfheah
I sympathise with some of the reservations about ?street art?, how it?s been co-opted, sanitised and commercialised (and become arguably, just a bit naff). All that said, it?s better than advertising, or just a plain hoarding. The new cinema can only be a good thing for the area IMO. At the very least, you may feel indifferent, but I don?t get the actual anger that some posters seem to be venting. I wonder how much it really has to do with street art or the cinema at all.
