BrandNewGuy
I see the redevelopment of the garden centre site has started. Or at least the demolition part... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46615-old-garden-centre-demolition/ Share on other sites

Louisa
Quids you wouldn't see a well respected independent garden centre close in Bromley. Mind you, you'd be unlikely to see a Morrisons open up in its place either. They've already got a Waitrose. Louisa. Mattsoper
The best one nearby is probably The Secret Garden in Crystal Palace. There's a small one on Landsdowne Hill, West Norwood, too. Otherwise it's B&Q on Old Kent Road, though I order online instead from Crocus or Beth Chatto - which can work out a fair amount more expensive, but they have a much better range of plants. worldwiser
Um, has no-one been to Alleyn Park just a stone's throw away in West Dulwich? Google it. Fabulous place and extremely nice people too. Newboy
There's a great family run independent garden centre called Alexander Nurseries in Sydenham. Great plants and you can have a coffee too! Mattsoper
When it comes to plants you can't expect most garden centres to stock everything as that requires a vast amount of space that only the out-of-town, online suppliers can hope to accommodate. I used to buy what I could from Dulwich Garden Centre and then get the more specialist stuff online, though I now have a longer list of alternatives thanks to the recommendations on this thread. Good to have local shops as well as online stores, of course - and it's perfectly reasonable to use both without being a hypocrite. edcam
The Croxted Road one is good. Not so much for house plants but they cram a lot into a small space. We really miss the ED Garden Centre, there are none locally that are as well stocked as that was. We drive down to Coolings I'm Knockholt mostly. It's amazing. Lynne
A warning. Don't go to Coolings in Knockholt if you're in a hurry. It's vast! People have been found hours later just wandering around in a daze through overload.
