kthompson
Arrived for drink at The Dog in Dulwich Village to discover upper part of back wall of building caved in this morning at around 11 a.m. - mercifully nobody injured at ground level (lots of people could have been sitting there). Now no restaurant or access to back garden. No more summer barbecue this summer. In view of pending building works to create bijou hotel, Dog's number could be up. Hope not. Jah Lush
Is it the start of building work or has it genuinely "caved in?" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46610-the-dog/#findComment-763261 Share on other sites
spider69
Silly question maybe. Can you still get a beer and burger inside? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46610-the-dog/#findComment-763262 Share on other sites

Louisa
The service at this place caved in years ago. Only a 15 minute wait at the bar for a beer. Who's counting anyway. Louisa. Louisa
The Plough service is dreadful too, alongside the food. I agree SJ, M&B do service like a vegan restaurant does pork sausages. Louisa. kthompson
Don't know. Last I heard Dog was due to close for 18 months at end of summer - so this may have just speeded things up a bit. Personally I would miss it if it wasn't there. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46610-the-dog/#findComment-763309 Share on other sites
MrBen
If The Dog was Greene King or a small pub co it could be great. The location, history and interior has carried it along regardless of M&B. But I would welcome a Hotel du Vin provided it keeps a buzzy bar, prices ok-ish and doesn't trash that vintage panelled interior by painting it all black. MrBen
Not sire there was ever any truth in that Hotel DV rumour anyway. It dates back to 2011. Any change would be good there to be honest. Jah Lush
Knew that but didn't think it would this early in the summer. Rather thought it would be middle of September. James
Awful place. Looks like the sort of rowdy, scruffy pub you'd expect to find in Romford rather than the heart of Dulwich Village. Hopefully the hotel will be more befitting the location. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46610-the-dog/#findComment-763498 Share on other sites
Jeremy
It's not scruffy or rowdy at all. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46610-the-dog/#findComment-763505 Share on other sites
