victor
Does anyone know why the Greek(?) deli - opposite the EDD is all shut up, but with loads of fresh fruit and veg and bread stacked outside? macroban
It was open when I went past at 12:30. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149363 Share on other sites
victor
Oh, it wasn't at 11.30! Glad it's not closed down - much prefer it to EDD! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149367 Share on other sites
HonaloochieB
Phew! That was a close one. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149370 Share on other sites
Lizziedjango
Yes, I am pleased it is still going. It is much better priced that the 'posh' deli opposite. I get the 3 bags of wonderful pitta breads for 99P whenever I pass by - and the eggs are reasobly priced too. RosieH
was, in an oblique kind of way, trying to point out that the two shops are not the same... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149626 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Really! How oblique do you wanna get? Actually, I prefer Harrods Food Hall even though I've never shopped there. I just like the sound of it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149646 Share on other sites
RosieH
I could get considerably more oblique. And the Harrods Food Hall is a good shout - it probably straddles the CLEAR LINE between the mediterranean grocers and the deli (and then some - it really is very very super) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4633-shop-closure/#findComment-149657 Share on other sites
Mark
The Mediterranean grocers, real name East Dulwich Supermarket aka "Mateys", sells lots of things that the deli does but at a better price e.g. olive oils, lots of different types of rice and pasta, obscure herbs, spices and sauces, turkish delight etc. I've noticed that when the Deli has a pancetta display so does Mateys but his are half the price. They sell things that you would buy in a super market abroad such as a packet of risotto rice where as over the road you'll probably find Authentic Hand Picked Italian Rissottorini rice in a cloth bag with hemp stitching and a bow, similar contents, different price.I wouldn't say there was a clear line between them (Lordship Lane excluded) but there is an overlap.
