BT Broadband problems

Mine has been fine (BT Infinity) - a few years ago I had a real problem when an I-tunes update conflicted with the software on my router - so it is possible that a software update on your system is causing a conflict with your broadband 'system' - i.e. with something which you use to interface with your broadband, which could either be in your modem:router or in your own computer hardware. If that is so, and the 'problem' occurs on more than one piece of kit (i.e. phone and PC, for instance) then it's most likely to be a conflict with your router, if it's 'just' with a single piece of kit it may be a software conflict within that piece of kit.

It's always worthwhile re-booting (I'm sure you've done that) both your kit and the router:modem - sometimes conflicts can be resolved that way.

If you are getting any service at all, even sporadically, then it's less likely (though not impossible) to be a physical interruption in your network connection.

Upgraded my BT infinity to faster speeds over the weekend and since then have had no broadband at all. Completely useless service from BT who failed to ring back when they said they would and then said I had to have a BT engineer visit (the first available slot for which was three days away). Having booked a slot for today they called me yesterday to tell me that in fact it was an exchange issue and that engineers were working on the Brixton exchange and full service would be resumed by 8pm tonight. I am not holding my breath.

    • Article in today's Grauniad on how to save money on water bills. Though only if you are  on a meter. If you aren't on a meter, there's nothing you can do to reduce your bills, so far as I know. Though from an environmental point of view etc I guess it is always good to reduce your water usage where you can. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2025/apr/16/cut-water-bill-england-wales-best-ways-to-save?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
