Pruning Hebes and Cistus

Can anyone help I have a Hebe and a Cistus which when planted I had no idea would take up so much space. When is the best time to cut them back

Rhs website has good advice on pruning most plants. For Hebes here:

Hebes I think flower on new wood each year so respond well to pruning. Cistus I don't know.
