Michael Palaeologus
Early start - trotted down to ED station for the 06.12 to London Bridge. Only to find the gates shut and locked with about 12 disgruntled passengers hanging about outside. The bloke in the ticket office said that "I'm trying to get hold of Head Office - only they can open the gates, we cant from here" - even though the ticket office is about 10 yards from the gates. Typically about as much use as a chocolate tea-pot.We watched the 06.12 come and go.I got the 40 bus, a form of transport that I despise as a 2nd rate mode of transport imposed on SE London because Government cant be bothered to invest in a proper transport infra-structure for us.Tessa of North London - having finally admitted that the 2012 Hop, Skip and jump Games are a waste of money, when are you going to focus on the transport needs of your Voters? No tram, no ELLE. SE London becomes a transport backwater for another 20 years. Nero
I agree, MP. When I first moved here, I was really pleased with the bus system, but now I have little time for it. The drivers are often rude, careless or even downright dangerous, paying little heed to those annoying red light thingies, for example. The amount of buses has not kept up with the number of people now living here, so the 176 can get very crowded indeed. Once on them, they are likely strewn with freesheets/Lucozade bottles/chicken bones and heated to an uncomfortable level. The 12 takes an hour, sometimes, to get from Rye Lane to Camberwell Green and is abused by free-ride seekers (not OAPs). Jeremy
Someone should start a helicopter shuttle service... chinooks running between ED and the City / W. End all morning. The trains are usually OK, but the frequency always seems to be the worst when you need it the most. Ted Max
Peckham Rye was, of course, open for business this morning, Mr P...and would have had, ready at hand, a willing volume of volunteers skilled in opening locked gates if there were any problems. Tony.London Suburbs
I,personally, would not bother wth a Hover. The contagious sickness of people crammed 9 inches away from you on all sides crying "Hughie!" simultaneously doesn't cut it for me....When this first happened I thought Mr.Green of Opportunity Knocks had got on board..:-$ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4558-ed-station-gates-shut-this-morning/#findComment-147393 Share on other sites
Ladygooner
Never even knew there was an 06.12 train! Why aren't you all still snuggled under your duvet at that time?! HonaloochieB
Didn't any one think to look under the flower pot in the Dulwich Garden Centre? The spare key's always there.
