Corbels needed

Hi there,

I've noticed that the house we've recently moved into is missing the Victorian corbels (decorative stone brackets) under our window ledge. Just wondering if anyone knows where to purchase these - or have they used a builder who sourced and fitted them that they can recommend? Any help would be welcome as I don't think they are just for decorative purposes - I do believe they help support the heavy window ledge. I have searched on the internet and tried a few builders merchants in the area and there doesn't seem to be anything available. Please help!

Thanks KidKruger. I'll have to physically go in then I reckon - when I called them up they didn't have a clue what I was talking about! I also tried Whitten Timber and they were equally bemused. Tried both build merchants in ED too, the response I keep getting seems to be 'Gorbull, woss that then' love? Etc. (And yes, I do show them pictures of them on my phone). :)

Yes pop in, they have some on display and will no doubt have a catalogue/other products available to order.

You can see their plaster mouldings display window a couple of shop fronts to the right of their main store.

If fitting yourself (simple job), you may want to get some plaster moulding adhesive which you just mix-up with water.

Thanks for all the suggestions about Googling but I've done all this and what I need are external load-bearing stone Victorian corbels for under the window ledge. I'm not sure the places that come up on Google are that helpful I'm sorry to say. A lot of them are PVC or cosmetic or don't have the range. Although I do appreciate everyone's help on this.

Now if someone can help who has actually had them sourced and fitted by a builder/or themselves that would be great.

Thanks.

*Please - no more google suggestions if that's okay. :)

Have you tried a reclamation yard? There are a few around. It will probably mean calling them up to see if they have what you are looking for. I can think of Lassco in Vauxhall and a website Salvoweb.com just off the top of my head

Also it might be worth checking that your neighbour's corbels are definitely stone, on some period houses these decorative/functional bits are sometimes just brick covered in stucco grand porch columns are an example. The brick performs the structural duty and the stucco makes it look the part.

i have put a link to sites you will find them on .you need the corbels and brackets.the corbels are not load bearing as such more for decoration as you will see by the ones removed from your window seals, dont forget you need exterior ones and not plaster ones the plaster ones are for in doors
