simonethebeaver
My roast was on the verge of a deep depression. It found its two uncrispy little potatoes upsetting. LadyDeliah
It does seem kind of like bullying to be honest. I've only been there a couple of times so have no opinion to offer on it's qualities, but the relentless attacks any time it's mentioned is pretty crap and doesn't show the posters in a particularly good light. Otta
I'm with LD. Have had my issues with the place but a long time ago. I also have some great memories of the place. But it seems like people who have probably never been there just slate it for the sake of it.Go and try it then cone and report back whether it's good or bad. binary_star
I went in when it was The Vale, The Cherry Tree and The 'new' Cherry Tree. The turnover of head chefs, managers and bar staff seems unusually high but they are rarely the ones getting the complaints online (it's all over here, review sites and twitter). Its location right by the station must mean it gets quite a bit of footfall from the commuting crowd and I was actually looking forward to it becoming my pub of choice for a swift half in the sun after work.I will reserve judgement of its latest incarnation until I have a pint in the place, but the trouble is I kind of feel I've given its owners enough chances and the mounting comments about how their staff are treated means I'm reluctant to give them any more. That's what I find depressing, some of the stories from ex employees are just awful.Good luck to whoever is taking this on, I have a feeling they are going to need a healthy dose of it. reeko
That is not the point dj. We have all frequented the Cherry Tree and the vale as it was, we have all given the place more than a fair shake, but when you are asked on average about three times a year to come and meet the new chef/manager, and they always end up leaving within a few weeks why should I give the place my custom? Even if what the new chef has done is amazing, I have no reason to believe that it will be any different than the last five or six chefs/managers and that it won't end in a hasty retreat. There are other places in ed more deserving of custom. LadyDeliah
Grouping together to have a go at someone is generally considered bullying. I think that reports of bad treatment of staff etc are perfectly legitimate, but that seems to cross over into something more unpleasant with the Cherry Tree / Vale. And of you are trying to infer that I am a bully, I would say that I am the opposite. I generally stand up to bullies on my own and others' behalf. My views are often outside the mainstream and therefore unpopular, which seems to invite attack from people who don't like what I have to say. My method of dealing with such attacks is generally; fairly logical argument, some humour and sarcasm which sometimes pisses off my protagonists and amuses me but does not amount to bullying. Alan Medic
I'm not a regular pub goer but I've been to the Cherry Tree a couple of times in the last year. As I don't consider pubs a place to go and eat it doesn't really make a difference to me how good or bad the chef might be. As a pub I liked it as it was spacious and the decor was comfortable. Everything negative that has been written on the forum about the pub was as a result of ex employees complaining about the owner. Their issues may well have been true. I don't know. Does anyone else? It may be fantastic to have a great chef and wonderful food, but not if you are running at a loss. It's a business first and foremost. The purpose being to make a profit. KidKruger
There is arguably a bit of bullying-type behaviour. However, it's also a tall order expecting people to demonstrate repeated good faith, year after year, with their hard-earned cash, on the offchance that the beer/atmosphere/food/attitude of owners is OK this time around and that this time, maybe this time, your money won't be wasted. If people feel they've already had a shite experience, they're going to say so and may even begrudge the place - as per many other threads (see plumbers, cafes, handymen, etc). Nothing unique to the Cherry Tree. DulwichFox
The point is that no one is forcing anyone to go there.. If you don't like the place, don't go there. Forget it even exists and go somewhere that you do like. Who cares if the place is empty. ? I don't. StraferJack
Lady dEver found yourself in the company of people all ripping into the Tories/ government?Sometimes on a thread in here? It's not bullying? Bullying is what these people do to repeated managers, chefs and customers. People on here are just repeating their experience. Calling "bully" is what bullies do when their victims finally pluck up courage to say "enough "If the management don't want negative comments let themHire talent and keep them. Everything ends there Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/44902-new-head-chef-started-at-the-cherry-tree/page/2/#findComment-751529 Share on other sites
