That's exactly what it was. Ribbing between mates who have all had their moments I'm sure. For me personally I found it quite funny as he looked a bit sheepish before Linekar (Mick Channon pronunciation) moved things on swiftly.

I did however think Henry had little of interest to say. Shearer was the only one worth listening to as you could tell he was miffed about England not winning and spoke from the heart which is unusual in a world of fence sitting cliche churners.

Oh and sorry if I or any other Irish people embarrass you SJ.

If that wasn't the most entertaining England performance in a long time I must be blind. Yet the pundits get more airtime here than the team. The question that needs to be addressed most in my opinion is what to do with Rooney? He is being treated like a utility player. Maybe he should be given the chance to play as a centre forward instead of Sturridge.

Reading PD's complaints about the Irish complaining about TH's handball when they got a penalty they should never had got in a previous game, is akin to saying TH would never have played if his Dad hadn't forgot the condom the night he was conceived.

Maybe I saw a different game to most and the papers.

But I saw a game in which one team were far better than the other; If England had scored again, Italy would have got another, I think they beat us in their stride without too much exertion.

I agree it was a far more positive approach and an entertaining game but we looked like a say, Switzerland, in terms of the gap between us and Italy. Happy to eat my words but I think we'll not make it out of the group and not get a win. That we have no world class players is abundantly clear but Barkley and Striling have potential to get there.

Just an embarrassment in terms of our standing rather than the actual performance.

Rooney drop him and Gerrard not that great either. I can't wait for the golden generation to pass!

I'm sure I'm not the only one planning my whole week/month around the world cup.

Sad I know but it's a necessity every four years.

Whether to try & watch whole match on-line at work or dash home in between & miss crucial second half.

Trying to find time for shopping, household tasks etc. Fitting in sleeping is bad enough, but when are you supposed to cook!?

Until the goal he assisted, Rooney wasn't even there. Lambert should have replaced him halfway through 2nd half.

Together with Barkley & Lallana (who should have come on sooner), it might have made all the difference.

I just had to lookup the stats for Switzerland v Italy given ????'s comment. Last 3 times they played it was a draw. Which is what I think England deserved yesterday overall.

My point about Rooney is if you are going to play him, play him where he is best. Just because Sturridge scored doesn't mean he should keep his place. What else did he do?

As usual total bollocks. Let it go, you lost the game, end of.

You don't help you manage perfectly well on your own.

AM, my point about Switzerland is that's about our level not our style of play or results we feel we are in the 2nd tier.

Rooney by and large doesn't play where he wants for united and as Scholes has honestly but undiplomatically pointed out he's past his best.

Agree with Mick, for once Shearer showed a bit of passion, I think he too was depressed at where our level is now. Obvioulsy we need to play to try and beat Urugay in the next game but if we fail I hope he plays the young 11 in the Costa Rica without a Lampard, Gerrard or Rooney starting.

PS Johnson was an embarrassment. Also Ironic that the only old guard player we did miss was Cashley

I thought my point was quite good and your response normal for you. Like I care about that game any more. You seem to though.

Strafer was right, embarrassing.

Who am I kidding. The 5 - 7 matches are basically a no go because the TV in our house will be in kid mode. I'm lucky if I've taken control in time for the 8pm KO.

Anyway, its Game of Thrones night, so might take a night off the world cup.

Thought Bosnia walked away from last night with some pride.
