As from my own experience, in order to get a good result I?d need to exert 10 to 20 times the effort than it is worth to me. I would end up with it taking over a good chunk of my life. So I exert the effort towards things I know will give me a positive result.Like my attitude to parking tickets even if I get one unjustly, I?ll still pay it immediately, just so I can get on with my day.It depends how much value one puts on one?s own time effort and mind balance. If it were obviously clear-cut then I would take the time. But these things are rarely simple the chances of success or failure are never better than 50/50.My equation on this one would probably be.Put in ?20,000 worth of stress effort and time including in this loss of work positive attitude and work time etc.. To try to get back ?8,000 ?. Realistically end getting ?4,000 so I?d be worst off to the tune of ?16,000.Doesn?t add up. Unless I could go for costs of ?16,000 but that?s never going to happen.Cheers Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4470-update-on-549-lordship-lane-concrete-house/page/10/#findComment-214628 Share on other sites
Aaron McCarthy
I was listening to the radio a little while ago, and a guy speaking on there said it is the earliest example of a concrete house; also, isn't the fact that it has been allowed to rot wonderful? I always look at it and think it looks the most Hammer horror haunted house I've ever seen; everyone looks up at its gothic arched windows and ivy clad walls; it should be kept in a perpetual state of elegantly haunted decay. Who wants to look at some shit block of boring, boxy flats with plastic windows anyway? I once saw a line of primary school children out drawing it with their teacher; will that happen with the functional boxy crap they'll replace it with? bluecanary
When my daughter was a toddler she christened it the 'sad house'. She was saddened by the thought that the house was feeling lonely and neglected because of the lack of a family to care for it. It will be great to see the house finally happy and lived in. east-of-the-Rye
Hexagon are actually a housing association, based in Sydenham but with properties in Southwark, (some in East Dulwich)Lewisham, Greenwich, Croydon and Bexley. They develop and manage social housing and shared ownership schemes - I'm not sure which this will be but will try to find out. Great to see the blog! meduza
I remember a press article about how fantastic it was that the council had finally purchased this property(with tax payers money!!) only to now demolish it. How disgusting!! The whole thing is a sham! I have watched that property go to rack and ruin over the last 40 years. A complete waste from beginning to end! Cassius
I don't live in the area any more but have added this site to my bookmarks. I've spent over 20 years looking at this building and wishing I could win the lottery and restore it until it got beyond saving or so I thought - so glad I was wrong and it was not beyond saving........... good luck Colin - I look forward to watching how the project proceeds in the future. fazer71
This is very interesting.I wonder how they are going to stop more cracks appearing in future? As once the old cracks are repaired the forces on areas where there are currently no cracks will inclease over time and cracks will then appear in new places.
