Hello, I'm a singer and have just moved to the area...

I really need to get myself established on the gig circuit locally, I'm self contained (own PA etc), singing with backing tracks and I perform a realy wide variety of music from jazz and easy listening to pop, rock and soul from the 60s up to Amy Winehouse and Duffy. I also sing a capella folk music (I especially like Irish folk songs). I have a degree in music and specialised in contemporary vocal performance so if anyone's interested in more avant garde repertoire or collaborating (composers, musicians, dancers, film makers maybe...) please drop me a line.

Where would you suggest I try to get myself booked to sing locally? Do you book singers? Do you know anyone who does? Do you want to listen to me? ;o) I've got some recent recordings on my website www.yula.co.uk.

Sorry to bombard you all with questions, but I've got to start somewhere!!!

Many thanks, look forward to seeing lots of you about in glorious East Dulwich.

Hello Yula,

You could try the Plough up at the Library. I'm sure you could get a gig up there. Keef of this forum does open mics up there and would certainly be able to advise you better than I can. Also the Forest Hill Tavern and occasionally the EDT have live music on plus there is Hoopers too. Sue, also of this forum promotes folk nights up there. Further afield there is the Half Moon in Herne Hill or the Ivy House in Nunhead.

Welcome to the forum and best of luck.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful suggestions... I will start a relentless PR campaign asap!

Also, although the backing tracks are very convenient, I'd really like to find a pianist to work with doing jazz and laid back songs, you know, good music... Joni Mitchell, standards, Holly Cole etc... is anyone interested in working with me?

Hi

If you want to sing at the Goose, can you let us have a demo CD or else a link to some folk tracks online, and we'll have a listen :)

If we thought it was Goose-friendly, we'd probably ask you to do an unpaid support slot at DHFC before booking you for Hoopers.

Have a look at our website to get a feel for the kind of stuff we do.

You could also try John and Elaine at the Dream Machine, next to Palmerstons, who put on live music there and sometimes elsewhere.

:)
