Niko the plumber - thumbs down!

Very interesting reading these Niko threads!

I just bought a super heavy cast iron rad, wanted to replace the one in my bathroom. I got a couple of quotes off this forum, mentioning no names, they were extortionate.

Niko responded to my text message with a phone call, told me he was very busy for a few days but would like to quote and so a week later he was over at 9pm to do just that. Why so late? because thats's the only time I could make it and so he was kindly flexible enough to do so. His price was the best by some way and coupled with all the positive feedback he had on this forum, I decided to give him a go.

We arranged a Saturday, I asked if he could start first thing in the morning as I had to get down to the Arsenal for the big kick off and sure enough, he was knocking at my door tools in hand just shy of 9am.

Honestly, he was methodical in his work, his configuration suggestions were spot on, he was highly respectful of myself and my wife, did the job in the allotted time, the finished article looked absolutely amazing, he had a cup of tea, a bit of a chat and away he went leaving my pocket with enough change for a monthly shop at Sainsbury's!

Here comes a slightly ranty bit but what the hell...

I am not his dad or his cousin or his neighbour leaving a Niki Is God post and no, he didn't beg me to put anything on here.. perhaps he has read some of the negativity and has cooled off asking at all. I don't know if any of you guys posting here are sole traders but if i was a one man band, i too would ask people to put positive feedback if i did a good job, where's the crime in that? Ebay is built on that very concept. Ok so you can go overboard sure, i would say that if one gets the feeling that the customer wasn't enamoured with the job - don't ask for feedback, but really, to condemn someone so much for asking just seems pretty mean to me... it's almost because the praise on here has been so high, people want to knock a person down. Bit like the National Press really.

Anyway what matters is the work. I can see that he takes huge pride in his work, i can certainly promise you that. If you can get his time for a plumbing issue, the odds are that it will be a good job - I certainly WILL be using Niko for the foreseeable future. Only negative thing i would say is that he makes me feel like a midget.. and i'm 6'3" for crying out loud.

Another thumbs up for Niko from me. He came round to sort out an issue I had with a drain, but ended up fixing my patio doors and then putting in a front food at my girlfriend's flat which is rented out. Any building work I need done in the future I will be using Niko. There are so many cowboys out there it's good to have someone you know isn't going to rip you off and will do the job to the highest standard.

A definite thumbs up for Niko. He has come to our rescue on several occasions, and done a complete and professional job for a reasonable rate each time. Without, repeat, without asking for a recommendation. And if he did, I would; isn?t that how these things work (21st Century don?t you know?).

Why is this thread titled ?Niko the plumber ? thumbs down!?, when having a quick rec it seems that there are about six times as many ?thumbs up? posts than ?thumbs down?, and then a fair few moaning about Niko not getting back in touch?

It?s basically moaning about someone working so very hard, that he finds it difficult to get to everyone. Is that such a sin? If only we all held that attitude?

It?s pretty well-known that a lack of skilled professionals has left the market open to unscrupulous people, so it goes without saying that recommendation is the best way to find a competent person (Building Regs parlance). The lovely people of ED have such a fantastic resource, it should be appreciated more!! Don?t get me wrong (!) I?m totally for free speech, even when we hear stuff we think is wrong (that word again!).

Anyway, at least Niko will have more time to deal with those who appreciate his service, so I?m happy. (I?ll just sit back with a fat one now and await the avalanche of personalised moaning?bring it on). Cheer up people!!

After being quoted an astronomical sum of ?3,000 by London Door Company to replace a new front door, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Niko through my partner (who has used him on a number of previous plumbing jobs) for his property.

Niko did a professional job replacing my front door for a fraction of the price, as well as fix my garden fence. He saved me a fortune. Niko is extremely hard working, trust worthy, friendly and reliable. I can see why he comes highly recommended here. I am eager to get him back to do a number of other jobs. He is a real gem.

We have just had a most excellent Niko experience: our bath was leaking and within 15 mins of my call he was at our front door! He fixed the problem quickly, had some good advice about how to prevent a recurrence. Very reasonable price, unbelievably fast and efficient service!

I'm going to vote Nike to be mayor of ED. He is a funny bloke

, hardworking, trustworthy and very skilled. He plumbed in my washer, fixed a bloody awful leak, sorted out my oven and basically made sure that my young son and I had heating. Can't recommend him enough.

I called Niko today, and despite it being a Sunday, he came over soon to fix a problematic shower hose and head.

I've had bad experiences before with people not responding to calls, etc, so I'm very glad I've found Niko. I recommend him to anyone in need of a plumber/handyman!

Has anybody seen Niko the plumber I have been trying to get in touch with him but haven't been able to get through to him. He was meant to come and fix my shower. Can anybody reccomend me someone? need help as soon as possible as my hot water is not running properly through the shower and the children keep complaining of the shower turning from hot to suddenly ice cold water.

Thanks hope someone can help

hi joanaj87,

in reply to your post i dont know niko the plumber but can reccomend you someone who always does my jobs for me and works within the dulwich area his name is michael 07956528963 and he is a really good plumber/builder with his own company urbanspace building and plumbing and always gives me excelent prices for the service he provides me. hope this helps your cold showers and that the kids can have a nice warm shower in this cold england weather.

Hi smb1,

Just wondered who the specialist was you got in to sort out wet room issues. We have had an awful experience with a plumber and now we are looking for a decent plumber to put the wrong right - also a wet room. So difficult to get decent plumbers from our experience.

Any recommend edition would be most welcome, thanks

I contacted Niko on Sunday and after several attempts I was able to get through to him. He kept me posted as to when he was likely to arrive and he fixed my problem as well as providing me with helpful information around ways to save money on my water heating.

I have also called him in the past and he has always been willing to come and see what he can do even when he is really stretched. I believe he had some issues with his phone over the weekend which seem to have been rectified.

He tidied up and took away the parts that were no longer required.

I would definitely use him again and I'm surprised at the not so positive feedback that he has received recently as the comments are far from my experience of him.

    • Shame, she seemed a decent Transport Secretary, it's not as if Grant Shapps never did anything wrong.  It's also a shame that some seem to enjoy these sorts of revelations. She declared the offence so not sure why she needed to resign.  I thought that in the UK we had a culture of forgiveness.
    • It looks like indiscretions, crimes, incompetency etc  by MPs generates a lot of responses so it might be a good time to start a new thread every time a new scandal emerges. Heaven knows there are enough of them from all parties.
    • It's not Thames Water's responsibility to keep Peckham Rye free of water, no. But the recent works designed to to hold water in the park: “capturing about 6 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of surface water and releasing it very slowly”, where undertaken to stop houses from flooding. The increased risk of houses flooding is the result of a drainage and sewage system which are in dire need of upgrading / modernising, and unable to cope. And this, Thames Water are responsible for. We are paying for their under investment (over many, many years) in the drainage and sewage system; In cash terms - funding the works to modify the park, holding more water in it to, and through the loss of amenity that follows from the park being waterlogged more frequently.
    • Aria helped us out this week. He replaced ballcocks in our loft tanks. These had caused a leak whilst we were away on holiday. He also installed a new radiator. Responsive to our requirements. Communication was really good, costs reasonable.  Nice guy. Very happy to recommend.
