I think most people who love music know who wrote it and have sought out the original Nine Inch Nails version but the video that goes with Johnny Cash's take on it does it for most people. It's impact was so great as it came at the end of his life and is more emotionally charged because of it.

The original version isn't always the best/definitive version. All Along The Watchtower, Twist and Shout, Tainted Love... I'd put Cash's version of Hurt in the same bracket.

Oh, and Elvis Costello's version of What's so Funny About Peace Love and Understanding. It's a whole other thread, I guess. Just don't mention Puff Daddy!

Or Lemmings:-

Out of control, out of control:

Greasy machinery slides on the rails,

Young minds and bodies on steel spokes impaled....

Cogs tearing bones, cogs tearing bones:

Iron-throated monsters are forcing our screams,

Mind and machinery box-press the dreams.

...but there still is time...

You're a long time dead.. 20 Mins is not too much to ask.

I don't want a funeral but they'll probably do as they like (family motto 'No one cares what you think') so I'll go for

The dance of the knights from Romeo and Juliet as they come in, to set the tone.

Then maybe the Johnny Cash version of Hurt, or maybe Back to Black by Amy Winehouse.

Then as the coffin slides away, Ace of Spades ny Motorhead.

And Rachmaninov's piano concerto no.2. That should sort them out.

(Edited because I can't see what I'm doing on this effing phone.)

Are we just thinking in terms of music?

Surely a video compilation of hilarious events captured throughout ones life, a la YBF or Rude Tube, and ending in a freeze frame of self in mawkish pose while Jane McDonald does a cover of All Kinds Of Everything.

Feck 'em - if I'm stiff as a board then I want everyone else bored stiff.

    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
