Days out near Hertford/bishop stortford etc

I am meeting some friends from Cambridge this week, half way for both of us looks like Hertfordshire, completely out of my local knowledge on what to do with the kids though, we will have 5 children under 5 between us. Any ideas? Thanks

If the weather is sunny ie picnic weather then can I suggest Hatfield Forest, just off the M11, bishops stortford junction, I think.
