Hi All,

Looking for some advice...I'm currently paying ?76 per month for buildings (only) insurance in SE22. This has gone up from ?56 in early 2005. Our house (4 beds, semi) had a partial underpinning in 1991 so when we bought it I went with the same insurer as the previous owners. No probs since 1991. I'm either thinking of writing to the financial ombudsman service about the current price of the insurance, or the alternative, presumably would be to get s structural engineers report giving the OK, and then onto a specialist insuerance broker. Anybody else been through this? Any advice, recommened people/companies and idea of costs? Perhaps ?76 per month is not outrageous for SE22 in reality?

Thanks v. much.

why not just do one of those comparison website things - I have saved a heck of a lot on buildingds/contents insurance. When I have been given a better quote, I have given my existing the chance to match and they couldnt. I admit I kept thinking I had missed something crucial (but hadn't)

I lived in Forest Hill for a while and my property never suffered from structural problems, however, as the area suffers higher than average incidence of subsidence, many of the insurance companies refused to provide me with building insurance. No simple solution other than shopping around but a lot but there will only be a limited number of companies who'll insure you. Sometimes you get a better deal and advice from an independent insurance broker rather than price comparison sites.

Perhaps you could suggest a higher excess limit should subsidence re-occur.

?76 is high but not exorbitant for SE22. I know people paying about ?60 per month with contents insurance included for East Dulwich
