I contacted Tesco some time ago and it told me there was going to be no store there. One local shop owner says there will be space for four or five units there. On paper, that part of the lane could be great. The pavements are wide, the housing stock directly opposite is large and Victorian, and it's near to an improved pub and the library, which is a handsome building, even if you don't use it.

Right now, it's a bit low-rent. A few trees, shops (for all those people who live up the hill from the Magdala) and maybe a cafe could do it? It's very near to the high-end Woodwarde/Eynella/Townley Rd types, who might like the idea of being able to shop nearer to home.

Here's hoping.

Ave Maria! About bloody tempus an' all.

Let's hope that locals are given priority, and it doesn't start to attract 'blow-ins'.

Last thing we need is for the ruddy Gauls to start laying siege to the place.

Blimus.

    • It’s still “under essential repair”, if that translates to “no action whatsoever being taken and no update at all being given”.  I wrote to Helen Hayes and CCd one of my councillors (the one who actually ever replies).  Please do the same if you’re cheesed off at this lack of action. They do need to get their (new?) website sorted, as only one of the "menu" links seems to work (the mauve cloud one does bring up the menu - don't click on the one in the inserted pic though, as it's a screenshot!) Hopefully admin can sort. Apologies for any confusion.
    • If you report this to Southwark they'll probably advise you to make a Third party claim or contact your insurance company.  Obviously if your building is not yet affected you may be reluctant to contact your insurance company because it can lead to problems in future when you go to renew even if you don't make a claim.  If it's just the pavement and garden wall etc you could start the conversation about removing/replacing the tree with the tree officer at Southwark, copying in your councillor if you get no reply.   The claim advice is in the link if you want to go down that route or ring them for advice https://www.southwark.gov.uk/housing/homeowners/leaseholders/building-insurance/make-claim
