I find this very hard to believe.


Seems like your colleague isn't prepared to move out of their comfort zone and into a suburb a bit further out. With lower "living standards", do you mean they are needing to moving to Syria? I always thought living standards were relatively generic across London.


What indeed do you mean by "safety"? There are plenty of safe affordable areas in London, or is this person scared of the urban myths of living south of the river.


If they own their current flat, it is likely to have increased in value substantially. Enough equity to buy somewhere bigger for their family. I have just done the same, and there was no shortage of such properties in "non scary" areas.


I really can't stand overdramatising a situation. All it takes is a bit of sacrifice and some thought and patience.
