david_carnell
By being a rather good EU trade commissioner; and having good insight into the machinations of the global economy - which seombody was saying is quite important at the moment. Moos
He did make a big mistake once and wouldn't resign - but then he got accused of something he didn't do, and resigned anyway. He's been in the wings for a while. And it was worth it for the headlines: - I need you today, O Mandy.. EDOldie
He's Herbert Morrisons grandson, so a real part of old Labour depite his presentation as a moderniser. He's an opportunist. They can't live with him, can't live without him. Poor bustards. SteveT
He recently had some hospital procedure to remove something which was 'non-malignant', the journalist doing the piece said, "it was the only thing about him that wasn't".I thought it was very droll. david_carnell
Dunno really. Not sure what the salary is for running the world's largest free trade area but I suspect it's not even close to the respective private sector role - if you could find one that carried the same weight of responsibility and power.I can think of far worse injustices in the world of pay packets than Mandelson. Well done Gordon keep turning over this new leaf. Cameron and Clegg may have to get some backbone and the odd policy soon if you keep this up. HonaloochieB
Well, as long as he chips in to the coffee fund (and Jean of course will make sure he does), doesn't get pissed up at lunchtime, come back and be 'inappropriate' with Mary, the young intern and buys his round of Friday night on the obligatory office drink up, I can't see what could possibly go wrong for PM in his new role.
