Cassius
Has anyone grown any mushrooms from these kits that are available in the garden centre? They look fairly straight forward and it would be quite fun to have your own shitake mushrooms on tap as it were, but wondered if anyone had tried this and had any tips/success/horror stories to tell. Cassius
Don't need the garden centre for those! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4365-mushrooms/#findComment-140309 Share on other sites
Jimbob
I got growing box last xmas and eventually got round to opening it in June. Followed the instructions and while the results in no way resemble the picture on the box, I,ve still managed 2 crops of what are best described as button mushrooms. Marmora Man
On related subject - anyone know where to go for wild mushrooms? I assume the woods above Dulwich College are a good bet. Does anyone lead mushroom foraging outings? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4365-mushrooms/#findComment-140378 Share on other sites
Cassius
There used to be foraging in Sydenham Woods - can't find anything out about it this autumn. There is quite a lot going on in Hampstead. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4365-mushrooms/#findComment-140384 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Dulwich Woods would be a good bet for wild mushrooms but I can also remember picking magic mushrooms on Peckham Rye many years ago. SteveT
I got some from the Shetlands many years ago and they knocked me sideways, the lady with whom the mushrooms were shared with said it was similar to 'tripping', I wouldn't know I was never that adventurous, having had a 'bad trip' graphically explained. Asset
Cassius Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I saw some magic mushrooms in the American Garden> in Dulwich Park last week..............Did you really Cassius? Did you see psilocybin (tiny, biege, nipple on top) or flyagaric (red with white spots). If it is the former I'll be down there this weekend! In re. mushroom kits, we got one for Christmas one year, followed the instructions and absolutely nothing happened. Not a mushroom to be seen.I would be up for trying again though so let us know how you get on. Jah Lush
Hold on. I'm coming with you. Middle of October to early November I seem to remember was a good time or in fact the only time for (psilocybin) mushroom picking. They used to be all over the Rye at this time of year. Been a long time since I done 'em though. Would be fun. Save some for me if I forget. EDOldie
Dulwich will be full of spaced out, paranoid, confused people wandering about aimlessly if this continues. Um, hold on a second. okcomputa
There are definitely magic mushrooms on the Rye at this time of year - I haven't seen any yet (it's still early), but I've seen them every year for the past 5 years. Cassius
Definitely psilocybin. Haven't indulged for years so didn't pick them. Actually only two small clusters - probably just about enough to put a really stupid smile on my face.Happy picking! Brendan
Well bugger me backwards I didn?t know there was shrooms to be foraged around here. We used to go gathering in the Transkie when I was a miscreant student back in Africa. The strain we used to find there were these I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_cubensis They grow on cow and horse poo poo. So you had to give them a bit of a wash first but it was worth it. The only ones I?ve ever had in ingerland were given to me by some women in Camden one day. They looked completely different and didn?t feel very nice at all. In fact all they did was make the canal boil and set some poor fellas hair on fire. Asset
you used to be able to buy Mexican mushrooms in Camden. Big and mouldy looking. They are good, really quite mild and gentle. Psilocybin are among the strongest hallucinogenic mushrooms you can get. Brendan
The ones I had in camden were big and white looking so probably mexican. I prefered the afican ones which (a bit of research reveals) are not the same species but in the same genus as the ones found here. PeckhamRose
Saw some fabulously big mushrooms in the foresty area bit of Peckham Rye Park last week. Massive they were, about 8 inches diameter. I know nothing about mushrooms though so no idea what brand/make they were. Jah Lush
A good thing to do with magic mushrooms is to make tea out of them. Put 'em in a pot and fill with hot water. Slurp slurp... magic! Asset
many years ago when I was young and irresponsible, I and a couple of friends went to one of the poshest hotels in Edinburgh, ordered afternoon tea and filled the teapot with mushrooms. I wonder what the kitchen staff thought when they were washing out the pot! Though if they were anything like most kitchen staff I've come across they probably refilled it. Brendan
Yeah but it's always a little bit difficult to judge how strong the tea is. So you?re sitting there enjoying your cuppa not knowing that there is only 2 sips difference between a slightly fuzzed, giggly reality for Saturday afternoon or swinging upside-down, naked from a lamppost outside your bosses house at 10am on Sunday morning while singing Follow the Yellow Brick Road and offering to lick passers by.Anyway look what you?ve done now. You have turned a perfectly legitimate thread about growing your own food into a depraved discussion on the mind altering properties of the local common. You should be ashamed of yourself. Jah Lush
Pah! I have no shame? You eat mushrooms offa cow shit boy.
