Of course if you're not interested in fashion then you're going to find the fashion industry a bit pointless! And I'm pretty much in that camp, especially the high end brand stuff, which I consider to be mindless consumerism at its worst. BUT... how many of us work in various service industries, which if we're honest, have little tangible benefit to society?

At the end of the day, if it's contibuting to the economy and nobody's getting exploited, then you can't really complain.

Otta, didn't you know it's hip to be angry, provided of course that when you are venting your spleen you're dressed appropriately, in say Pretty Green cloths as modelled by the Gallager brothers?

Child labour and sweat shops, endless consuming of our finite resources, last year's style sent to landfill if not recycled, pressure for models to be un-healthily thin and resultant mental health issues.

Issues not generally connected to arts.

Not sure you can say the fashion industry doesn't harm anyone.

Certainly there are grotty and grubby shenanigans involved but I think that goes for nearly every industry somewhere down the line, should you only care to look hard enough.

A somewhat overly serious hardline misery-guts attitude to something which adds genuine interest and colour to life.

I agree, but in same way that people can dress as they please, people should equally be free to express an opinion. If you fell that someone who is dressed in garb which they believe to "hip" looks like they've been sleeping rough, feel free to say so.

Presumably you don't mean that you would 'feel free to say so' to the person in question?

Depends on how well you know the individual, or not if you're feeling mischievous

And provides endless amounts of mirth when "hipsters" dress in garb which has come straight out of Billy Smarts clowns circus wardrobe.

Hipsters trying to look like clowns, or more worryingly, clowns trying to look like Hipsters?

Worried parents of ED need to know, the safety of our children is at stake!

As an aside, your anti-fashion Hipster will be wearing socks with sandals this summer. Feel free to laugh in their faces...

So that's what all those Brits abroad have been doing since the 60's, they've been parading their Anti fashion feelings without us even knowing.

I disagree Jez

Good loose knits and a pair of Birkenstocks, a pair of faded quality jeans, on the RIGHT person is a HOT look

Trouble is there ain't that many RIGHT/HOT people

As an aside, isn't the whole 'Hipster" thing more about a lifestyle, than just a fashion statement
