ed_pete
As I cycled past the Peckham Academy this morning, I spotted (at least) two table football's in the playground. My, how things have move on since my day. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4333-playground-games/ Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
I noticed that the other day, on the way to Lidl. What's wrong with a tin can and a couple of conkers? Keef
Patball!!!!!Could involve several players, all you need is a tennis ball and a wall! The first player "serves" by boncing the ball off the ground and against the wall, then other players take turns to hit the ball with the palm of their hands, hitting it so it bounces once then hits the wall. The next player needs to hit the ball BEFORE it bounces, and after leaving the hand, it must bounce only once before hitting the wall.Advanced players can employ special shots such as the "low cut".Many a playtime / lunch time was spent playing patball in the first couple of years of secondary school! Annasfield
British Bulldog. Everyone I know reckons they got it banned at school. (We did too) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4333-playground-games/#findComment-138885 Share on other sites
Keef
Yep, so did we, so it had to be rebranded. I got a rib broken in secondary school playing "cops & robbers", but this wasn't the harmless "tag" based game of the same name! ;-)There was another one called "Chinese" (I have no idea why). I never played this one, but it was popular for a while, and involved the thrower of a ball getting many "beats" if the ball was caught one handed or somethign like that. buggie
use to like "stuck in the mud" when I was a kid - when tagged you had to stand still (stuck) with your arms out until someone ran under them unsticking you... felt like we'd play it for hours... Tillermun
Ahh, but was it "bundle" or "pile-on" you used to shout as you jumped on each other in the playground...Clackers were banned from playgrounds as well as British Bulldog - all those smashed up wrists... - and I take the mickey out of them in a book I've co-authored, along with many other things retro. Brendan
I think you will find it is ?pile-on? old chap. A bundle is the collection of cricket whites, sticky handkerchiefs, grass stained plus-fours and soiled dinner shirts that you hand over to the house charlady to have cleaned, starched and spiffy by morning, don?t-cha-know. Jah Lush
If matron could hear you calling her the "house charlady" she would be jolly batey with you Brendan and they'd be no tucker for you until at next Tuesday. Jah Lush
That's not what Jenkins says. He reckons you and Ponsonby-Smyth spit-roasted her in the dorm whilst he filmed it on his camera phone. I think he's planning some blackmail for the pair of you otherwise he'll be telling sir. Brendan
That wasn?t the matron it was Jenkins. It was homework for P.T class. Or was it R.I? I forget.
