My son broke his collar bone yesterday one week before his 4th birthday and I was wondering if anyone had been through a similar experience and had any advice to give.

He has a very boisterous 2 year old brother and is normally very sporty himself.

Am wondering how to keep him entertained for the rest of the holidays. We need to avoid playgrounds and busy places but also have a two yea old in tow which makes things like cinema trips less easy. Was thinking horniman and Vauxhall city farm great options but can anyone think of any others?

Many thanks in advance

sorry to hear, that's rotten luck. When the weather wasn't so good, we tried the Discover story centre in Stratford (http://www.discover.org.uk/), which would work for both ages, I think. Easy enough to get to on overground / tube, and can be topped off by a pizza or so at Stratford? Hope he gets better soon!

Museum of London docklands is good, also going to north Greenwich & having a ride on the

cable cars (use your Oyster card, kids go free & normally get a capsule all to yourself).

On the plus side, collar bones heal quickly & kids are normally pretty good at avoiding using/protecting it

themselves. He'll likely not need a sling by end of this week.

Don't be shy to use regular analgesia :-)

Just wanted to say thanks so much for all the suggestions. We are just back from going on the boat and cable car at North Greenwich. Was brilliant fun and so quiet, we got a capsule to ourselves just as you said!

We've also been to the Horniman, woods and CP dinosaurs which kept everyone busy.

The biggest challenge is stopping my two year old from tugging at my eldests sling and wanting rough and tumble and being a generally boisterous 2 year old boy! Plus the 4 year old keeps forgetting he is injured and so is still climbing things. Best tactic at the moment is painting his toe nails whilst watching Frozen which I am also enjoying!

Meant to say in first post as well that Kings were outstanding both in a and e and fracture clinic. So lucky to have them on our doorstep.

    • Vispring, I'm not a poet so I don't have enough vocabulary to gush about it, best money I ever spent. Open your wallet, they say you spend a third of your life rafting on it (probably more these days with Netflix).

    • Time will tell if H&B are loved or loathed, the footfall they get and generate will determine if they stay or go. That's the nature of businesses, they come and go dependant on usage. Examples are M&S, Poundland Local, Co-op, Superdrug, Mons, the chain restaurant/takeaways, the chain Estate Agents, Toolstation, Screwfix to name a few.  As much as people would like to see Lordship Lane remain a high street of independents, it is becoming clear that due to Landlords hiking rents, some are unable to survive. This leaves empty units which some of the chain brands considering it to be worth a "punt". I'd have thought that businesses operating in shops is a better alternative than a high street with multiple empty units, but what do I know, they are just thoughts on the subject.   Take a look at Croydon and Bromley where what were once thriving high streets are in decline.  I have to say that some of the prices charged by the independents are eye watering, and incomes i'd have thought have to be substantial to afford their prices. Personally I'd love a Lidl to open on what was the site of the Harvester, but I guess that would get shouted down, oh the thought of Lidl in Dulwich. Whatever next.
