Lee Scoresby
Hello Administrator,I have tried to post a praising message about a cafe in East Dulwich, but the system keeps taking me into a dead end. Is there a gremlin or is it a system block? If so, why?Thanx,Lee Scoresby Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/ Share on other sites
El Pibe
There are some blocked words which might be at fault.Specialist syndrome we call it.Try selectively removing each word one by one until it posts. Lee Scoresby
Intriguing idea El Pibe - are you, by any chance, Senor X, El Administrador Grande Y Mas Secreta?I came up against this block years ago when I let an opinion go a bit sweary - yes, I admit it.But I mean: buggies? - louche? - puds? - Fellbrigg? - monkey? . . . Lee Scoresby
What I would like to happen is for the Moderator, who, goodness knows, has been happy enough with his/ her trigger finger in nixing my posts over the years, simply to let me know how I can send him/ her a private message with the text of my would-be post, so that the offending word/s can be identified. And for the EDF to review exactly what words are being stopped by this bozo filter. Because, to repeat, I assure you my text is utterly innocuous. Pibes old chap, I have just now learned what cialis is, so there's education for you. I cannot but observe that for some reason we are permitted to use this diabolical word in this section.LS Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-736525 Share on other sites

StraferJack
I suspect it's a phrase you are prone to using Look at subsets of the letters. Administrator Administrator Posted April 14, 2014 Administrator Share Posted April 14, 2014 As I said in my PM, it seems to be fine, I've pasted the version you said was being blocked below. Can anyone else spot something that could be blocking it? For obvious reasons I can't post the list of banned words, and I have no idea how come I can post it and Lee Scoresby can't...---Right-lovely cafe, cnr Fellbrigg and Shawbury, quiet leafy hood, calm daylit ambience, nice staff . . . and brilliant non-dead-animal food. The red lentil soup is quite stunning. Shortish menu - like every other really good cafe and restaurant I ever went to. And for louche late-lunchers like me, they serve til 6 (5.30 on Sun). The competition? : Well, I was a Blue Mountain monkey for some years but that was long ago. The place seems trapped in a moment of its own past; and a recent bite there was literally without taste. Prettys is a great place, good food, generous portions, lovely staff. But they need to: step the cooking up to the next level (where is the rumoured new 2014 menu?), get more serious about offering vegetarian variety; and not offering a scrumptious range of soft puds (fools, crumbles, messes etc) to show off their fruit is a serious missed opportunity. Have I ruined Cafe Le Brique Bleu by talking about it? Will I have to start queuing behind SE22 hipsters, and yummy-mums with their Hummer-buggies? Hope not. I did need to shout out for a great place and fantastic food.--- Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-738246 Share on other sites

Lee Scoresby
SJ,further to our PM exchange: the filter apparently didn't like two words in my mail - let's see if I can post them here in this section: kitchen, and investment.LS Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-738299 Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted April 14, 2014 Administrator Share Posted April 14, 2014 Ah, you were trying to post about a business in the ED issues section, rather than the business section. There's a ban on kitchens in that section.Anyway a moderator (me) saw it and hid it during a tidy up. I'll un-hide it and move it to the business section later. Lee Scoresby
The EDF main-section subheader invites us to comment on eateries - which I did.Cafes are businesses, sure. And they have kitchens.Verrily, the Venn circles overlap chum.LS Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-738395 Share on other sites
Loz
Yeah, but there a bot dropping constants ads for kitchens (or, rather, k i t c h e n s) at the moment, so I can't blame admin for making it a naughty word. Administrator Administrator Posted April 14, 2014 Administrator Share Posted April 14, 2014 It invites comments on eateries but doesn't say 'in this section'. And a recommendation for a business is not really an overlap, a business is a business and so comments about businesses go in the business section. Unless it's an issue or gossip of course. It's generally a 'common sense prevails' forum but sometimes it doesn't prevail however any help keeping it tidy is greatly appreciated. Lee Scoresby
Hello Mr X the Administrator, and/or SJack, loathe as I really am to bring all this up again, I have been chewing over my ill-fated cafe review thread for several days, and several mysteries keep bugging me:The biggest one is why my post 'Shout out for the Blue Brick', after severals day up and running with various comments by other customers, all totally normal, has now disappeared? Why on earth . . ? The second is why, after a series of friendly and extremely helpful PRIVATE message exchanges with SJack, I was then contacted by Mr X the Administrator, rather cooler in tone I have to say - and have since discovered that these messages have gone onto this 'public' thread, as above. The third is that I was told off for putting my cafe comments in the top section of the EDF, 'General EDF issues', rather than the (4th) business section. And yet the strapline for the top section specifically states, in part: "Talk about local restaurants [etc] . . ." by which we can surely include cafes. So the whole thing is a shmozzle. Sorry to be narky. I expressed my admiration and gratitude for the EDF to SJack, who was prepared to discuss rather than wag that anonymous finger and press that delete button, but it really does not make sense. Now I've said it.Lee Scoresby Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-739348 Share on other sites

Administrator Administrator Posted April 17, 2014 Administrator Share Posted April 17, 2014 Hi Lee Scoresby Your post is now back up here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1301921,1301921#msg-1301921 sorry it took so long to get back up but it's not been highest priority.Your post is about a business so should have been in the business section. Apologies that the subheader confused you, I can see how it can confuse however most people seem to understand that the heading is more relevant than the subheading. Lee Scoresby
SJack - not sure I said you were an admin wallah - you did refer to a previous administrator in personal terms. I got that 2 different people were communicating with me - I have found the whole experience a learning curve.'Too regular' eh? Defined how? as the patient said to the bowel specialist. I often don't post for many months at a time. I hope that my contributions add to the gaiety of ED life in their modest way. And I have drawn attention to at least 2 problematic ED issues: Fusion's appalling mismanagement of the ED Leisure Centre - this thread went on for months, with scores of contributors. And the garbage generated by visiting sports teams on the Rye. Not a self-back-pat; this is part of what the EDF is genius for, surely?Mr X the Administrator - I appreciate your being in touch and the help you have given. And I now understand more about the EDF's software substructure. But:- If the EDF has a general header/subheader which refers to the WHOLE forum, this should be separate from the header/subheader for the first 'Issues' section. - The top subheader IS confusing. Headers AND subs should be totally 'relevant', that is: clear. - Tho eateries are clearly businesses, I do not immediately think of them in these terms, like a plumber. I guess I think of them more like 'experiences' or something. Do other readers have any thoughts?Offered as friendly feedback is all,LS Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42933-block-on-praising-a-cafe/#findComment-739651 Share on other sites
