SteveUK1978
Helpful late night reply to the original post....There was previously an unsuccessful planning application to turn it into a nursery on the ground floor. That was turned down at the time. Maybe there has been an update to that. Maybe post on James Barber's thread. Earl Aelfheah
There have been a number of planning applications against this property. This is the latest:http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9553104 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42929-crown-house-anyone-know-what-the-plan-is-for-new-use/#findComment-736586 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
From what I can make out from quickly perusing the planning app site, they want the ground floor to be retail (already approved), a shed loads of 'studio flats' above and then to construct a further level with a couple more 2 and 1 bed flats. It's a lovely looking building (though run down) and grade II listed. I really hope that the council take this into account before approving too many changes to the front. ed_pete
Grade II listed - I don't think so... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42929-crown-house-anyone-know-what-the-plan-is-for-new-use/#findComment-736622 Share on other sites
nxjen
Thank EDP, the remark about Grade II listing baffled me Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42929-crown-house-anyone-know-what-the-plan-is-for-new-use/#findComment-736630 Share on other sites
Nigello
It would scrub up well. The lines and proportions are attractive, but in its current state it looks utilitarian and frumpish. Jeremy
Although I'd stop short of calling it "lovely", it's inoffensive and I think it would look fine with a little TLC.But the building the other side of the swimming pool really is grim! ianr
The planning application summary does say "Listed building: Grade II".OTOH, it doesn't show up as a listed building on the interactive map at http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/southwark.jsp (category is 18th from end of side menu) , or in http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/search?pc=SE22.Somewhere there should be an authoritative list. Peckhamrye
There is, it's here: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/professional/protection/process/national-heritage-list-for-england/And I can't find Crown House on it. The Leisure Centre is listed. ianr
It's also listed Grade II in the summary of 13/AP/1934 of July 2013, but not I think in any of the other seven applications, some earlier, some later. It's a strange type of clerical error to make, let alone twice. Earl Aelfheah
I think you're right (that it's not listed). I really like it though. Run down, but nice lines. maxxi
Cold and unloved but yes, good lines. Like something from an abandoned 1930s Aerodrome. This is how the discussion was going a year ago when the nursery lost out to some kind of retail unit - or so it seemed then...http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1005625,page=1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42929-crown-house-anyone-know-what-the-plan-is-for-new-use/#findComment-736721 Share on other sites
SteveUK1978
Hard to see what retail would do well on that site, no real footfall and it is isolated from the rest of the shops on LL. Another "Express" style supermarket I suppose as there is space for parking out front...but even the much fabled M&S would want a more high st site you would have thought? Shame re: the nursery. Can see that being perfect location for that and let's face it, plenty of demand in the area.
