Peckhamgatecrasher
The Bun House in Peckham used to be run by Scots - no longer if they still do. Used to be a bit rough, but not too bad. snorky
ED is full of one dinemsional plastic football supporters and when Ingerland are playing, they swap the nylon of their adopted NW teams for the the red tat of England.Until They are cruelly disappointed. again. then they forget about it until the next big game/ finals are showing and their hearts beat with the blooded patriotism of the deluded & the bars echo with cries of Rooney or whoever the gutter press are lionisng in their latest jingoistic tirades.Everyone becomes an expert on the attacking potential of Belarus, despite never having heard of the Stalinist semi-rogue statelet in the cul de sac of their livesED is crap for watching Scotland on the whole, but you do see it sometimes when the mightly Ingerkand have an evening kick off and the pub sees a possible slot in the dead early afternoon , such as the EDT, and Scotland have a 3PM game, but dont bet on it.The Hootenanny in Brixton ( ex Prince regent IIRC ) is a Scots pub that is probabably the best in SE LOndon when a game is on, but best avoided at other times. roygbiv
Cheers mate, might try the EDT as I've just noticed that the Scotland game kicks off at 3pm and England aren't playin 'til 5.15.Plus, I'm sure I've heard a few familiar accents in the EDT, so I might not be the only one tryin to get them to show it! MrBen
If you ask them nicely they may try and show it. Provided its quiet. They have done that a few times for me. Or use the forum to round up some tartan army. I'd come and join you roygbiv but think I'll be up in the that day myself breathing fresh air and getting a decent Haggis supper for the first time in 6 months. The EDT or The Hoot are your best bets. *Bob*
The Scots mostly take themselves out of Scotland.Hence the declining population there. Ted Max
The population of Scotland has risen to its highest level since 1983, according to government statistics. The figures showed that the population had risen to 5,144,200 by June 2007, an increase of 27,300 compared with the previous year. The increase was mostly due to the highest levels of migration to Scotland from other parts of the UK and abroad since the 1950s. *Bob*
Apologies - I should have said: hence the declining population of proud Scots there. Ted Max
On the contrary. Those fortunate enough to migrate to Scotland are unfailingly proud of their adopted nationality. With those who head South deemed not to be "proud Scots", there can only be one result. A net increase in proud Scots resident in Scotland. *Bob*
You should never trust government stats, Ted. They probably counted the (temporary) population surge due to the Edinburgh Festival, just to get the figures up.I really like Glasgow.Does this mean I'll hate Edinburgh, if I go? Ted Max
I see you've ceded me that little round, then. Because you are an open minded individual who seeks the good in people wherever you are, and avoids crass generalisations, I predict you will love Edinburgh too. And its citizens will also respond warmly to your vocal enthusiasm for their Glaswegian siblings. Ted Max
PGC, don't mistake the Easter Road faithful's vibrant renditions of the working man's poetry for the sort of spittle-flecked distemper present at so much of the game in the South.Fans from Rangers and Hibs unite four times a year to celebrate the rituals of their shared brother- and sister-hood, re-inforcing local and national cohesion with a rich re-imagining of their separate, but bonded, oral traditions. Ted Max
Bob, often times I have been told by a native of that City that they prefer even the English to their wannabe counterparts in the Athens of the North.I put this down to nothing more than their love of the Glasgow banter, and respond in kind. It rarely fails to provoke a warm response. Shug
The Hoot will be jumping but it would be nice to get served and avoid the trudge back home. if the EDT have it on I'll certainly be up for joining the cluster. It would be good to get enough folk to warrant someone locally showing our games on a regular basis. Argentina game on Nov. 19 is also on Sky. Anyway, see yoos on Saturday. I'll be dressed head to toe in apprehension. MrBen
Right lads (and lassies). The EDT ARE showing the Scotland game today. Or so they just told me. And as I'm not going back to the motherland until next weekend I'll be down there - will look out for you Help Ma Boab!I think it will be a decent game - the Norwegians are alright. And I have stuck a tenner on Faddie to get one.
