Sue
If you're offered cashback in Somerfield - make sure they give you the cash.Luckily I realised yesterday while I was still at the till. Genuine error? I don't know. But the assistant was doing a lot of merry talking whilst I was about to leave with my shopping - to distract me from the fact he hadn't given me my cash? I don't know.I'd only just started using my card in there again, too :-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4246-somerfield-again-cashback/ Share on other sites
Horsebox
That's quite an accusation. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4246-somerfield-again-cashback/#findComment-135711 Share on other sites
seanmlow
Maybe the poor girl was trying to be polite with her 'merry talking'? Surely it was your fault for being so absent minded you forgot that you asked for cash back what, 2 minutes before? Pagey
It's all been downhill at Somerfield, didn't have such issues when it was Gateway and prior to that International ( going back a bit now)..those days didn't even need cash you could barter Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4246-somerfield-again-cashback/#findComment-135762 Share on other sites
AcedOut
I could tell people to watch out when paying money in the bank also. Genuine errors do happen!I once paid a cheque in for ?600 (in East Dulwich, but I won't name and shame the bank), only to notice when checking my account that only ?300 had be credited. It pays to get a receipt for everything! Fortunately for me, this was the case, although for 'cashback', this may be harder to prove. Horsebox
The fact that Sue felt it necessary to make a thread about it says something to me - and the title of the thread It reads like a warning, no? The mention of 'merry talking' as artifice makes the whole incident sound slightly sinister and dishonest, in my very humble opinion. Jimbob
i,m with horsebox on this one, as i read it sue is insinuating that the cashier was attempting to distract her and hence not give her the cashback. MelbourneGr
You should be checking you get your cash back everywhere! Sue
All I'm saying is that an assistant in Somerfield did not give me my cashback despite having asked me if I wanted cashback a very short time before. And yes - I wasn't sure it was a genuine error as I don't usually find shop assistants making conversation after I've packed my bags and am about to go, when there is a queue waiting. That doesn't make it an "accusation".This has never happened to me before in years of getting cashback in shops. You used to have to initial the slip, does that not happen any more?I have started a thread about it because there appear to have been other problems relating to cards (cloning) where a common factor seems to have been that cards were used in Somerfield.I thought I had carefully worded the post. Just saying, if you ask for cashback make sure they don't forget to give it to you, that's all. I thought it was worth starting a thread, sorry if others don't think so. If you don't realise you've not been given the cash till you've left the shop, it's too late, isn't it?Edited to change some of what I'd written and also to say - it was a man who served me, not a woman as assumed above :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4246-somerfield-again-cashback/#findComment-135950 Share on other sites
will dex
i'm with Sue (not literally!), but really, give the post a chance, perhaps someone may have posted on the merits of serving on a till and we'd all be a little wiser.. as it is uve probably just pee'd off each other and got nowhere...worked on a till? any takers??(eduited to say oh dear, that was not a pun but an unfortunate last turn of phrase..) Asset
Just to point out, it's not too late once you've left the shop as the tills have to balance. I did exactly that at Sainsbury's and it wasn't until I got home that I realised I had forgotten the cash. I got the money after phoning the shop. Bizarrely, I had to describe my shoes, presumably they had a camera trained on the till and could see my feet. Sue
Jimbob Wrote:> if you,re sooooooo concerned why not stick your> head back into somerfield and have a word with the> manager.(6)(6)xxxxxxxxxBecause then that really would be making an accusation, wouldn't it?I'd rather give someone the benefit of the doubt - but I'm also suggesting people be aware of my experience.Last week I had my card out in Somerfield ready to pay, and a complete stranger came up to me and asked me if I was aware that many people in East Dulwich had apparently had cards cloned after shopping there. As it happened I knew that (mine was one of them) but if I hadn't known, I'd have been grateful to her for telling me. What's the point of a forum if you can't share things with other people which might be helpful? And now I have to go and work, I have a big day/evening at work tomorrow, and I won't be able to post again on this thread until very late tomorrow or Wednesday, so if I don't respond to your response, please don't read anything into it :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4246-somerfield-again-cashback/#findComment-135963 Share on other sites

And I've almost walked off without my cashback more than once through scattiness. I'm sure it's not been the till assistant trying to distract me, I'm just the chatty sort and can distract myself nattering if someone is friendly to me. Sue
Yes I believe there was some evidence, if you read the previous thread. And when my bank phoned to tell me my card had been cloned I mentioned Somerfield and they said "how did you know"?
