SeanMacGabhann
not talking about any individuals here, but using the scenario..Jimmy - I hear what you are saying but it's not about rewarding people from what I can tell - policies like this exist(ed) to a) acknowledge the fact that some people just can't function as well as others. b) by containing that problem, on balance, society benefits in a way it wouldn't if some of those people were on the street and possibly resoorting to assault, muggings etcI'm generalising to make a point but I do agree with the maxim that a society can be judged on how it treats it's most vulnerable. The situation you found yourself in sounds woeful but you clearly possess the faculties to turn things around (as most people do)Is fair enough, but what informs that opinion? And jealousy doesn't count Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4238-whateley-rd-peaceful-this-evening-lounged/page/3/#findComment-137902 Share on other sites
jimmy two times
At what point is someone classified as 'vulnerable'? Is the mugger on the street 'Vulnerable' because somewhere down the line he was traumatized? I'm not sure if these people were vulnerable or not and I don't know what process was used to decide if they were, but they clearly appeared to make their neighbours lives a misery. I have sympathy for anyone who has been dealt a crap hand in life, but I still think most people ,on some level, know the difference between right and wrong in spite of how their lives have panned out. These people may have had problems but in what part of their minds did they consider harrassing and intimidating neighbours whilst drunk acceptable? This is why I think they don't deserve help. It sounds to me that the real vulnerable people in this situation were their neighbours. Scylla100
Okay, I?m just guessing here but I think they would have been assessed by a social worker under community care legislation. They would have had to have a need for assistance such as a mental health problem or a disability, or they came out of a long stay institution or were brought up in a care home - drug and alcohol misuse don?t count as having ?a need.? It sounds like they just weren't able to cope - I wouldn't have wanted to live next to them but I'm glad they seem to have been moved on to someplace more appropriate. SteveT
jimmyTT I agree whole heartedly that far too much is thrown away on the ne'erdowells, and the honest and upright citizen is not cherished when they are down on their luck. I am a firm believer in the welfare state but not for the work shy, selfish, asbo collecting, no-hoper.Sweetgirl we can only hope that someone or something somewhere has knocked the whistle out of him. Perhaps there is a case for these dangerous bendy buses after all, especially if he's ended up under one.We wouldn't get that lucky I don't suppose. Keef
Sweetgirl, you have anonymity on here, at least grant this human being the same right, as I think any news story would until he's actually been convicted of something, which he probably won't be!FFSEdited to say good work for removing the name, I think it was a good thing to do. annaj
Well said Keef.Sweetgirl, I haven't looked back through all your old posts, but from memory I can't remember you posting anything positive about anything. That and the fact that, as Asset points out, you seem to really enjoy the misfortune of others, is I think what Keef is referring to rather than out and out rule breaking. Keef
I appreciate that, but the people on Whateley are now gone, and it's not like this bloke is just going around abusing people for the fun of it because he's a bit of a nasty type! ChavWivaLawDegree
When it said in the bible that the meek would inherit the earth, I think JC got it slightly wrong, because it seems the tight-arsed whingers have inherited the earth and shoved all the weird and wonderful, non-conformists down some big pit somewhere. benjaminty
Asset Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> he's getting a fair amount of abuse on here from> some people who obviously wouldn't dream of saying> anything to his face.Asset et al ... dont think we should go any further into details here. The Whistler is known by the police and I have been warned to steer clear of him. He's launched unprovoked and unwarranted verbal attacks on my other half which I can't even begin to go into detail on.The fact that many people wouldn't say anything to him is people erring on the side of caution rather than being 2 faced or lacking in balls to say anything. Equally it's probably unfair to lay into the guy on this forum now that he is seemingly out of the way. What's done is done... but please don't under estimate what certain people have had to go through living in Whateley Road. Just because it hasn't happened to some on this forum .. doesnt mean it hasn't happened. Hope that makes sense?I know a great deal about the guy and suffice to say I'm happy he's gone.. but probably best we all leave it there. I doubt that'll be the case though..
