Hi

I needed some advice regarding one off child care or nanny services. I have a 10 month old baby boy and we live in west dulwich. I need to travel out of the country in April for about a week to attend my sister's wedding. Ideally whole family would go but my little one's visa has still not arrived. This means my husband and baby will have to stay here for a week while I travel with my 8 yr old. Baby goes to nursery and husband can maybe manage but I am very nervous. Are there any reliable great professional nanny or childcare agencies in dulwich who can provide a nanny to come over for 3-4 hrs in the evening to care for the little one, bath, feed, play and put him to bed. Or any other advice please? Dates I am looking at are 21st - 26th April.

Regards

Hmm, I'm thinking you've got 7 weeks to train your husband to learn how to bath, feed and put his own child to bed!

Other than that, no helpful suggestions, sorry, though I'm sure if you google you will find several nanny/babysitting services who can help with short-term childcare solutions.

Hi. I don't know where you need the visa for but I would also try getting on the phone/ turning up and begging for your sons visa -explaining that otherwise he will need to be left behind and you are desperate for that not to happen. If the person you speak to can't help ask them who you can speak to. You may just get lucky and encounter a human being that will help you out. I always try this in these types of circumstances and people will often help if they can. I would be panicked if it was me on your situation as I know my husband would struggle-meaning there would be lots of tears on baby's part. I'm sure you will find a good nanny to take the pressure off, but don't give up on bringing little one just yet...
I tend to agree with Redjam and surely it won't do much for your partners confidence as a father that you are more confident in a total stranger to care for your child? What a great opportunity for him to get to know his child even more than he does while you are away.

As a bloke, I'd be pretty hurt if my wife assumed I couldn't manage our child. I do think a lot of women kind of assume their husbands are incapable of managing a child, but really it's because they won't give them a look in.

Don't take that as harsh, it's not meant to be, but chat to your fella before you decide he won't cope.

Hi there,

You may have already found a solution for 21st to 26th April, but if you were still looking to use a local childcare agency, we would love to help.

We have a number of highly experienced, local Nannies who have CRB/DBS checks registered with us available for short and long term bookings.

    • No, you won’t get your rent back for not having an EPC. I presume you’re thinking of  rent repayment order… you’d have to have evidence of an offence such as illegal eviction, harassment, threat, unlicensed property. None of which you’ve indicated.  I don’t see what the problem is with your situation, certainly nothing substantial. If you have evidence of disrepair (including professional report) and you have to have evidence of informing the landlord as well; you’ve mentioned damp but said it’s not there any more?
    • Thanks…..still convinced I can get my rent back - not vindictive person but no one treats me this way & gets away with it. Will teach them a good lesson if they get a fine - well two really - much rater have rent back. Yes, will be taking pix - already have one for mould in bedroom - now removed.
    • Take your own meter readings and properly document the condition of the property when you leave. The LL won’t have a case to claim against your deposit without a sign in inventory. Not having an EPC is largely irrelevant- if you report him he might get a fine but you are unlikely to get compensation.
    • Thank you both. Inexperience Landlord trying to save  a few pennies - hence no agent involved. The issue is the fact that it is my understanding that without an EPC that is current then they should not have rented the property - far  more to the point and taken rent from me. They commissioned an EPC 4 weeks & I am still waiting for or a copy!!! No gas in property. Well I guess it will be a case of instructing solicitors which I have tried to avoid doing but as they are not responding at all, I have no choice. If I am correct about EPC then it will cost them alot more than refunding me my rent.
