People talking about 6% beers but are they as strong as you think..

Is that 6% ABV Alcohol by volume or ABW Alcohol by weight.

Alcohol by volume is the percentage of the liquid which is alcohol.

For example if you had 100 ml which contained 4 ml of alcohol, the alcohol by volume is 4%.

Alcohol by weight measures the mass of a substance in a mixture as a percentage of the mass of the entiremixture.

So if you had 100 grams which contained 4 grams of alcohol, the alcohol by weight is 4%.

It looks like the two are the same, but they are not.

You get into trouble comparing ABV and ABW because is alcohol weighs less than water.

Alcohol is less dense, about 4/5 as dense as water. The density of alcohol is 0.79336.

Alcohol by volume is the alcohol by weight times the density.

ABV = ABW * 0.79336

This means if your beer is 4% ABV, the beer is only 3.17% ABW.

This means if your beer is 6% ABV, the beer is only 4.7% ABW.

Was in there the other weekend for a birthday. I enjoyed the cider (perfect pint), the staff were great, food was good although the chicken burger could have been bigger. I can see the big screen being a pull for some but I found it annoyingly loud especially when you are wanting to have a chat with friends across a large table. I will go back but I will also check first what is being shown on the big screen.

    • Yeh, I heard Badenoch banging on about how 'nothing works' at PMQs, as if this was a charge that could reasonably be laid at the feet of a recently elected Labour government. She's right that things are in a terrible state, but it was her government which left the country so. Labour have a huge uphill struggle to try and halt the decline of public services and restore our finances. People need to wake up to the legacy that the Tories have left us.
    • well yep - all of that is true and Labour boxing themselves in on Brexit red lines is counter to their growth narrative as well  (albeit semi-understandable given what would happened to the media and likes of Jazzer if they are even perceived to soften them) choppy waters ahead - but that would be true of any govt picking up the pieces and in no way validated the petition hysteria
