sunbob
Our school did a hat/headdress dress up and I was really relieved when I heard. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41751-i-hate-world-book-day/page/3/#findComment-728332 Share on other sites
verarow
Having a fresh hair style is important to both of men and women. Before making a hair style in salon maybe you can first buy a hair wig to wear and have a look if the hairstyle is fit for you or not. There are various types of hair wigs such as black male wigs which can be got from http://www.hairwigsall.com/categories/Men%27s-Wigs/ and other hair colors of hair wigs for people to choose. You can choose it according to your preference. Smiler
Grrrr. Our school did pyjamas and bring in favourite book, which was at least better than costumes. Have noticed that it's almost always women sorting this school crap out! Otta
Possibly because more women are home to do it whilst their men folk go out hunting? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41751-i-hate-world-book-day/page/3/#findComment-728864 Share on other sites
oimissus
pyjamas and fave book are the best idea I've heard about - I reckon most kids would think it hilarious to go to nursery/school in their PJs! And at least they all have them. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41751-i-hate-world-book-day/page/3/#findComment-728872 Share on other sites
sunbob
Yes i think pygamas go down well. My daughter went in pygamas to nursery (poss red nose day can't remember) and she still talks about it 2 years later! She has told her 2yo brother on a number of occasions that one day he will go to nursery in his PJs :-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41751-i-hate-world-book-day/page/3/#findComment-729101 Share on other sites
BB100
We celebrated WBD at our school and all the teachers dressed up too and acted out a chosen book in assembly. The children were very excited and learnt a great deal from the experience. We chose a story with lots of different characters so parents wouldn't find it difficult to find something suitable at the back of the wardrobe. Our WBD took lots of planning and hard work (and we were exhausted) so it's sad to read this thread and hear parents find it too much trouble when schools are working hard to promote literacy and a love of books. They are your kids after all. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41751-i-hate-world-book-day/page/3/#findComment-729233 Share on other sites
SE22mum
I think a lot of parents on the thread do like the concept of World Book and Day and do their best to get behind it. It's just not all of us are that nimble with a thread and able to knock out a decent costume...and that makes us feel bad beside parents who manage to get their kids to school in super garb. I don't think this thread is really anti-WBD - it's just letting off a bit of steam! They are your kids after all. What your school did sounds wonderful, but I think you'll find that a lot of schools are not working hard to promote literacy and a love of books. A lot of schools are doing nothing at all except for telling the kids to dress up.Your post is a bit insulting frankly, and I deleted my first response. oimissus
heh heh, I deleted my first response too.Suggesting that if you don't buy into dressing up for World Book Day you mustn't care about literacy or instill a love of books in your children is a bit rich. And that's my 'mild' response. Your post would have been fine (in fact your school sounds like they did a great job with WBD) but your last sentence was pretty rude, to say the least. BB100
but your last > sentence was pretty rude, to say the least.Well good. My post was rather tongue in cheek but for teachers who work 7/11 for your children (and yes I arrive at work at 7 and still going at 10p.m sometimes only with a 10 minute break - in fact I've just finished my planning tonight, yes Saturday night at 11) it's demoralising that parents begrudge the time to cut out what could be perhaps just a paper mask for a once a year event and yet find the time to complain about it. So please have a heart and lay off the complaints about WBD.
