Just a small point in the defence of pavement hogging buggy pushers - pre children I had the same attitude -tutting at said pushers. Two kids and one double buggy later - I am that pavement hogger. I offer an open invite to all pavement and bus tutters ; come push my two sizeable offspring, in their hefty double buggy, complete with it's undercarriage of shopping - it's f#**ing backbreaking. I'm not sure it's a question of entitlement or smugness - more of a practical issue it's hard work to steer and heave around. When I am on my own I leap nimbly out of the way in sympathy if I see a knackered looking pavement hogging parent. Next time you see a buggy - think loaded up shopping trolley with wonky wheel and let it through. Have a fricken heart.

Some time back in the 70's at The Lee Centre.. (affiliated to Goldsmiths College)

there was a Young Conservatives Meeting..

One of the Young toffs on being accused of being 'Working Class' replied..

"I'm not Working Class. I'm unemployed."

Something to remember.

Louisas bizarrely moronic post above (that's certainly no definition of class I've ever heard before) reveals the reality that despite her earlier attempts to make it appear that she was making a fair and reasonable point about prams obstructing pavements, this debate isn't really about prams, it's just her thinly veiled (and now all out) swipe at posh people.

Good on ya. And a first for the Forum I believe!

It's hard work to do a lot of things in life, unfortunately that's the reality of the world. It's about a sense of entitlement to use the pavement over and above everyone else who is using it (by SOME buggy users). You (pram users) have a pram- you chose to take it on the pavements- be considerate to other footpath users. The same applies to cyclists and other pedestrians too. We are all stakeholders in the footpath outside our homes. As for your comment about eating chicken on a bus, I will let that one pass as I'm not prepared to go back into a conversation about inconsiderate and downright ignorant Londoners who do antisocial things in a public space.

Where have I made an unfair comment about my experience with prams? I pointed out I don't have an issue with people based on class or anything else for that matter and YOU then try to turn it into a class issue. All I said was IN MY EXPERIENCE said antisocial buggy users tend to be of a certain social standing (or appear to be at least). I'm sure there are other ignorant buggy users from other classes too. Go find them for me- I'm open to people sharing their negative buggy experiences.

Louisa.

Eating chicken on a bus is a disgusting habit.

Greasy fingers on the handrails and backs of the seats, discarded skin and bones littering the seats and all over the floor.....

And the smell! Do I really want the stench of cooked dead animal wafting under my nose on the way home after a long day at work?

And as for the chips & ketchup flying around, I sometimes wonder if my clothes are going to even survive the journey home!

What a ridiculous comment.

It's got nothing to do with colour or class. It's about having consideration and respect for other people.

But class and socio-economics are very important in relation to the area and public etiquette, no?

So double buggies and flat whites = bad in all scenarios

Lamb patties, hand me down prams and watermelon eating = virtuous

Bulldoze the whole lot down. That will stop it stone dead

I believe the correct term you are looking for is "Tumble Weave".

Its all right they are going to knock the front part of the station down and redevelop it. I believe they have ?10,000,000 to do it. I don't think the leases have been renewed for the shops in front of the station.

Roll on the gentrification.

Friend of mine emailed me a picture of the front of the station before they built all those ugly bulidings around it. Whoever sanctioned the building of those shops and offices must have been barmy. The station had quite a nice facade which shouldn't have been hidden away.
