jollymummy
Does anyone know if a child on or around Fiern Road has ever been offered a place at The Charter School? pebbles
Yes, my next door neighbour goes there. We're in-between Underhill and Goodrich Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41502-the-charter-school/#findComment-723192 Share on other sites
simonethebeaver
Don't forget catchments change every year, and on the whole are shrinking, so past precedent isn't the best thing to go on. The school website, I think, will tell you the furthest distance of a place offered in the initial round last year, so you can get a rough idea of whether Friern Road is still possible. Also fewer kids from the East Dulwich side now get in since the Charter was forced to change its admission policy to include as a 'safe walking path' a route through to Denmark Hill. The whole thing was played out on here if you search. intexasatthe moment
They weren't forced to change their admissions policy .They were told by the Schools Adjudicator to adhere to their published admissions policy ie safe walking distance . intexasatthe moment
Another point is that schools will do all they can to move up the league tables . If that means manipulating the admissions system to achieve a catchment with a greater percentage of middle class households by excluding those living on a council estate then that'll be done . After all few have the motivation , energy and time to challenge them . Certainly not the LA .It seems that all that matters is climbing those pesky league tables ,not a well rounded education for all . Miacis
One thing worth bearing mind is that the last distance offered is the offers from the first round. I gather there is quite a shake down after the first round of offers as some applicants opt for private so worth staying on the waiting list.
