We are about to have a conservatory built to get some more space. We've also forked out for underfloor heating and it came as a bit of a shock to find that we couldn't have the solid wood flooring we wanted because of said heating ststem. So, I'm thinking of Amtico or Karndean vinyl flooring. I know Amtico in particular is very expensive. Does anyone have either and can tell me how they've found it and, just as importantly, how much it cost. I was a bit taken aback by lordship lane carpets who reckoned it would cost almost as much to fit as the actual flooring. Any recommendations of suppliers would be fab too.

Thank you!

We have just contracted with Westminter Carpets for fitting of Amtico.

I think there are cheaper Karndean options, but Amtico is two price brackets either 42 or 70! per square meter roughly.

The higher end Karndean we were considering (as against the lower end Amtico) was ?10 per square meter cheaper for the tiles but as the fixed costs for screeding and fitting are the same for both, the overall differential in price was not significant, so we went for the Amtico.

They did say there is little difference in quality - we just preferred one of the Amtico choices which was in the ?42 range.

Westminster Carpets are on Lordship Lane at the junction with the South Circular and next to Bathstore and Topps Tiles.

John there is very good and should beat Lordship Lane Carpets on price, or so he told us anyway! But certainly you get attentive service. Not had them installed yet though.

Yes does both K and Amtico.

This probably isn't an issue for you in a conservatory, but I was considering Karndean or similar as an alternative to a white painted wooden floor in my kitchen, as the floorboards would have to be laid over concrete, so I got samples.

I found that my red hair dye permanently stains them (I colour my hair in the kitchen to avoid staining the bath!). And probably other things would as well. If I drop dye on white paint I can paint over it.

As I say, probably not an issue for you but maybe worth bearing in mind.

    • it isn't said on any news source that I look at. Are you asking on social media whether what you read on other social media is true?
    • Thank you. Yes we scanned him last time, he is neutered & chipped. We asked neighbours who were feeding him to keep him in as, owner said she wasn't back till following day. That night whilst he was kept in, Gladys came back. The owner lives on a street who's garden  backs onto my friends garden. We asked neighbour that kept him in for night, to not feed him anymore. The owner said not long after she got him, he went out January, never went back till December! I did say so you don't want the cat, she said yes she does but she can't lock him in. I suggested she leaflet all houses who's back gardens back onto hers, to say to stop feeding him. She didn't do it. So until people stop feeding him, he will be a problem as he obviously doesn't want to go home and all the time she never saw him, there was no posters up looking for him, so it's one of those situations! He is a beautiful fluffy black and white and is enormous. Don't know what the solution would be if owner not bothered. Celia hammond overflowing, even kitten season was early this year. Can't take a owned cat though I'm sure he isn't happy. I'm hoping Gladys and Doris will go back home if he isn't loitering. Yes their owner does spray him with water but has little impact. It is a real problem and a worry that they are too frightened to go home and may travel further away. That is the real worry. Will keep post updated.
    • Hi, I’m looking for a small garden table and 2 chairs used but in good condition, ideally one you’d like to get rid of 😊 Chairs need to be sturdy so that she can sit on these safely!  Thanks in advance for her!
