MrBen
Found myself wanting for the first time on Sunday when it came to local pubs. I was with a mate with some heavy(ish) stuff to talk about and wanted a quiet pint. I wanted a thick ash stained carpet to soften the sharper noises. A fruit machine quietly flashing in the corner, some decent ales on tap, a fire and a welcoming vibe.Options were almost entirely: kidfest/creche, roast fest, band fest (Patch and Ivy House both rammed) or premiership/rugby fest. So I didn't find what I was looking for. Anyone know where Dream pub for last Sunday might exist? MrBen
It could have been The Clockhouse. If it hadn't had that Beefeater style makeover. Jah Lush
I feel your pain Mr Ben. It's impossible to find anywhere locally that isn't full of the Sunday lunch brigade and their offspring running riot. I'm afraid it's a bygone era that you're looking for.If you find it let us know via PM. We don't want everybody knowing. Otta
Another shout for the Golden Lion. They serve Sunday lunch, but it is not full of families there to eat.Not that I've been down there for a good while.Or a recent "discovery" is The Bricklayer's Arms on Dartmouth Road. Used to be a shithole, but seems to be under new management and there is a little room at the back like a weird living room stuck on the back of the pub. Worth a look anyway. Help-Ma-Boab
Peckham Liberal club....maybe not quite what you want, but has a puggy, quietish and old school working mans club seats and chairs - just the place for a serious chat. Tried to join recently but they were out of forms. Will be on that case again soon. Mick Mac
Would the Flying Pig or the Gowlett not be ok on a Sunday afternoon? I cant say I get to go to the pub on Sundays very often, so who knows. Or Franklins bar, surely that's quiet?? ????
Is the Prince of Wales still open in Cleaver Square and still a boozer if it is? That would be good if so. StraferJack
you can mentions it bob (you usually do ;-) ) but given how busy it gets on a Sunday with families, roasts and sport, it rules itself out of MrBen's reckoning on 3 seperate criteria Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41242-dream-pub-for-last-sunday/#findComment-720081 Share on other sites

DulwichFox
If you want peace and quiet.. Empty. No football... No families. no kids.. Probably The Cherry Tree. You could have the place to yourself.. Not sure about the fire..
