Vik
Does anyone know what happens to childrens clothes taken to the Mind charity shop? I have given loads over the years and have more to take down but just recently clocked that they don't actually sell childrens clothes.Anyone know what they do with them? Pierre
I don't know about Mind specifically but some other charities have shops which specialise in different goods; a friend of my mother's volunteers for Help the Aged in her home town and they have different shops in the area for adult clothing, children's clothing, books, CDs and DVDs, that sort of thing. So although you have taken it to one shop, they may have bagged up all the children's clothes and sent them to another shop. You could always ask in the shop, I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you.HTH.: P Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4098-question-about-mind-charity-shop-grove-vale/#findComment-130417 Share on other sites

kristymac1
The mind shop takes in everything, but they don't necessarily sell everything in their shop. Much of the stuff donated is sorted through and then collected by a van - to be resold/recycled elsewhere, often because 'elsewhere' is more appropriate for the stuff donated - like electrical goods and baby equipment, both of which have to be safety checked (which is why a lot of smaller charity shops don't take these items) before being resold/reused. Saying that, I'd find it odd if they didn't sell baby clothes (given the SE22 market), perhaps they do but they just don't stay on the hanger long enough to notice.....I find the people at the Mind shop really helpful and so take all of our unwanted (but still usable) stuff down there. agathoise
I asked about this in the Mind shop a while ago because we've given loads of kids' clothes over the years -- and picked up some lovely things as well. They definitely used to sell children's clothes, but stopped a couple of years ago -- I was told (by the nice, very pierced chap who I think manages the place) that they didn't have enough space for children's clothes any more. At the time I pointed out that this was a big shame, particularly given how many young families there were in the area (donors and customers). We now give our children's things to the St Christopher's Hospice shop which supports a wonderful local resource. mikese22
The Mind shop takes small electricals but the Hospice shop does not - swings and roundabouts I guess?I tend to alternate my donations between the two Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4098-question-about-mind-charity-shop-grove-vale/#findComment-132683 Share on other sites
