RosieH
i need a holiday, stat. (is that the word? I've been watching a lot of ER)having quit my job a couple of weeks ago, visited friends and family and generally watched too much daytime tv, I now need to go on holiday before the money runs out and I have to get a job (I've got two weeks max)I need a week in the sun on my own because all my friends are seemingly otherwise gainfully employed. I'm too tired for strenuous activity, but I don't want to end up in a resort where a nice couple invite me to dine with them because I'm Shirley Valentine in the corner (although a resort where I get it on with Tom Conti wouldn't go amiss)mostly I want to lie down, read books and eat nice food any suggestions? AcedOut
I can highly recommend Croatia. Dubrivnik was fantastic. You could either spend a week there or move North up the Dalmatian coast. 34 degrees dry heat, every day. Fantasic. If you want sandy beaches, then it may not be for you. They are mostly pebbled/rocky. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4076-where-shall-i-go-on-holiday/#findComment-129775 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
California.Hang the expense and carbon footprint.Dollar's not quite as in your favour as it was when I was there April, but still a fab place to be.Or somewhere closer, Spain.Friend just got back from South of France and it was warmer and drier in UK! zephyr
don't go anywhere that uses the Euro as it is way too expensive now. Just go back from France and ended up spending a shed load more cash than we did 2 years ago relatively speaking as the exchange rate is now very very poor. RosieH
hell yeah, no single person supplement (this is the killer - every hotel I'm looking at is adding about another ?200 as a punishment for going it alone) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4076-where-shall-i-go-on-holiday/#findComment-129801 Share on other sites

AcedOut
Damn, that's harsh. How about a sailing holiday, or is that not your thing? Great thing there is accommodation is included! It's a pretty popular thing to do for single travellers...There wasn't a lot of wind in Croatia in early August though, but it may be picking up now. AcedOut
That reminds me of the time I parked the car on a lay-by to take a leak. As I was walking out from the bushes, I gazed up at a yellow sign entitled, "Danger, mines!". I'll think twice next time about p1ssing on someone else's turf!!!Seriously though, you're only likely to find mines in Croatia if you really head off the beaten track. Cassius
You won't get hit on by men in Turkey if you don't look 'up for it' - they are not stupid, it also depends on the sort of resort you go to - obviously if there is a predominance of younger people it will have a different atmosphere to a more family resort.Try googling Kas on the Lycian coast - it is beautiful as is Kalkan - but a bit more going on in Kas.Also avoids Eurozone - however southern Italy is cheap even with the Euro. Annasfield
I was in Egypt a few years a go with my Mum, a friend of mine and her Mum. None of us were on holiday to get laid (which I assume it was you mean), yet the fact that we were women on our own meant that we had plenty of unwanted attention.Cleary though as we were wearing summery clothes etc, we were "up for it". Is that what you mean? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4076-where-shall-i-go-on-holiday/#findComment-130270 Share on other sites
