lorenika
I'm new in East Dulwich and so far I've loved every place and street I've seen around here.. I would love to hear what your favourite place in ED is and what it makes it special to you, maybe a street.., a house.., or even some special memories you have from your childhood in ED... It would be great to hear it.Thanks everyone! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/ Share on other sites
Moos
Nice thread, lorenika. I hope your move went well.My favourite place in ED is Goose Green, and the view of St. John's, the mural, and the baths. It's not perfect, but I love it. Guest
Not strictly ED perhaps, but I love the view towards London from the ED end of Bellenden Road. bigbadwolf
My favourite E.D memory took place on Underhill road a few years back. Whilst drunkenly staggering back from a party I found a plastic banking bag with about ?2000 in it. Kept it! ????
I don't know about best, but I can tell you my worst... a few years ago I dropped bag with a couple of grand in it on Underhill Road Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/#findComment-128850 Share on other sites

Keef
Not surprisingly, mine is the CPT. My dad worked there when I was little, so I used to get taken up there in the mornings, and sit there whilst the cleaner was doing her thing. Me and my sister would be put in a corner with crisps and lemonade on Sundays.Later on my sister had one of her first jobs in there when she was just 18, and more recently I have met some of my best friends in that pub, so it has played a part in my life.Things have changed there now, but I'll always have a fondness for the place, and the new manager Chris seems a very nice fella. mattham
Mine would be bringing our babies home from Kings. Of course I'm duty bound to say that, but it's true. Cassius
I think it must be sitting in the hammock in my garden in the days when we used to have something called a summer with a great golden orb in the sky. A glass of sparkling wine in one hand and a good book in the other.I also really enjoyed bbq'a at the Magdala (now sadly departed).Hope you continue to enjoy ED Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/#findComment-128972 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
If I had to pick one, it would be stading in the middle of Rye park, watching red double decker buses go past the large houses on a crisp Autumn dayBut I also get a kick out of the bus going around Goose Green roundabout, travelling from town - esp. after a trip awayTurning on to the top of Friern Rd and seeing the city in the distance (not escpecially grand but tied in with arriving in the area)The curve of Lordship Lane away from Goose Green with the bustle of people on the pavement (actually, that one reminds me I might have said all this in a similar thread about a year ago!) annaj
New Years Eve at the Clockhouse one year. It was advertised as a fancy dress party and I persuaded all my housemates to go dressed as nativity characters (Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds - all homemade from sheets and tinsel) When we arrived we were the only people in fancy dress, apart from Miles the barman who was dressed as Elvis. Felt very silly, but had a fantastic time! Brendan
It would have to be walking through Dulwich Park on an icy cold winter?s day, around Christmas time when everyone is in a good mood, on my way to The Dog for a warming late afternoon pint. MadWorld74
mine would be a early morning run past PR park when the mist is still thick on the ground. Not a time of the day seen by that many people, part from the dog walkers and other people mad enough to run on a winters morn. HonaloochieB
It used to be getting on the upper of the no 12 Routemaster bus from Barry Road to go 'up west'. Going over Westminster bridge at any time of the day or night was an absolute joy. Not the same thing in a bendy. In fact going over any of the London bridges on the top of a double decker is a balm for the soul. Now I get the 176 and go over Waterloo Bridge which is still wonderful and I get to hum Waterloo Sunset, even if it's morning time. I just don't care, me.Welcome by the way Lorenika. citizenED
Several favourite moments have been suggested by others - for example that view from the Cafe on the Rye towards the Clock House (and the grand houses that front on to the Park has lifted my spirit many a time, and the "coming home" feeling I get whenever returning to ED: That comes on as I go over the crest of Dog Kennel Hill. And annaj I also went to a New Years party at the Clock, in fancy dress, and had a fantastic time, though it was evidently a different event than yours since I was a toff, accompanied by two gorgeous tarts. And HonaloochiB the Bus-bridge-balm is a truism is ever there was one.And also - I love walking round the streets of ED. There's many a favourite corner, building, view etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/#findComment-129076 Share on other sites
Pickle
I love the view from the top of Upland Road/Dunstans Road. I'm often out for a walk late afternoon and it's really quiet, especially at the top of Dunstans Road - I used to work amongst the chaos of Canary Wharf and I love the fact that I can see it yet am surrounded by silence! And also the view as you turn into Barry Road at the Peckham Rye end, fabulous. kristymac1
The CPT will always do it for me - hubbie proposed to me on New Years Day 6 years ago just outside after a great night (one of many) inside with our friends - don't get much chance to frequent it these days due to young offspring, but definitely will always have a special place in my heart. Also, don't know why but the bend on Crawthew road, as it meets Frogley - I really like it, don't know why.Lastly, the view of Canary Wharf from our bedroom.I love East Dulwich.x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/#findComment-129085 Share on other sites
Shu.Kurimu.Sensei
Choosing a new Matchbox car from the draw in the stationers on Lordship lane, rummaging through the fancy erasers at Dee Dees, watching things like silver onions and bierwurst weighed and served at the International supermarket on LL.Love the sunset from Crawthew Grove :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4053-my-favourite-placestreetmemory-in-ed/#findComment-129106 Share on other sites
Pugwash
Walking at dusk following a sunny day, especially in Dulwich Park, the stillness gets to you. Better still if you are with your dog(s).Sitting in my garden on a summers day listening to the sounds of people and music from the Plough pub. CamberwellOz
I'd just arrived in London around November 2002. Early 2003 I was catching the 176 bus to work and I watched falling snow for the very first time. It made me cry. Keef
Camberwell Oz, I remember it snowing then, because I was out in the snow in the morning with my lovely lovely Aussie friend Tasha. It was her first snow, and I remember her spinning round with her arms out like a little girl bless her :)Shu.Kurimu.Sensei, I used to love going in to Dee Dee's and chosing a keyring or some other fun trinket. This has made me think of childhood in ED, will have to put some memories together now... Shu.Kurimu.Sensei
Heh, am sure a few people must have memories of buying odd secondhand toys or iron age(?) arrow heads from that kooky shop on Northcross road from that geezer with the beard, popping into the joke shop (which became Strans), or escaping molestation from the creepy jeans shop owner, or possibly even being filmed for Danger UXB? I was working for the fire brigade in Southwark at the time and went for a walk up to the city at lunchtime. Seeing the city covered in snow was awesome. I naively thought that every winter was going to be like that. Ant
The American Garden in Dulwich Park is a particular favourite for me. Sydenham Woods too (although perhaps they don't count as ED). Keef
Was discussing the woods with Jah just the other night. Spent many a Saturday as a kid with my friend climbing down the vines like proper action heros, and was always rather scared of the tunnel!
