Salsaboy
I've always thought that the Beatles, along with Elvis and U2 are the most overrated band/artist in the world. Ever. El Pibe
Fair enough, looking forward to your songs to achieve legendary status and enduring world adulation, cos it's a piece of piss no doubt. Otta
The Beatles wre amazing and broke new ground many times over, but they all should have been forced to retire from music when the band split. Or maybe Paul should have been allowed to do Wingts, and John could have done Imagine, but after that nothing! steveo
The Long and Winding Road finished The Beatles run of number ones in America. They had twenty US number ones in six years, which averages out at one per 3.7 months. Otta
And getting a number 1 back then actually involved shifting a hell of a lot of records. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/40331-the-beatles/#findComment-712662 Share on other sites

KidKruger
Bought "Live at the BBC - Vol. 2" for a few people at Christmas. Great collection of songs, most done in one take - a concept many bands may struggle with today. FJDGoose
My dad once said they were allright until they got into 'all that trancendental meditation lark' - Beatles were ace - mccartney was great after the beatles too - band on the run is faultless , he totaly lost it in the 80s - the only decent thing lennon did post-beatles was Imagine ( in my opinion) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/40331-the-beatles/#findComment-712701 Share on other sites

MrBen
steveo Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Are rarely heard these daysVery true. Esp in terms of radio airplay. But is it so surprising given we're now almost half a century away from Sergeant Pepper's first release? Scary if I think about that too much. I think they've done their bit for music. Salsaboy
I never said they were shite, just overrated. They have made some truely good songs but I just can't understand why they are held in such high esteem. Especially McCartney. And Stevo, don't do yourself down! Otta
Because no one had ever done a lot of what they did before. There was a recent program about Jimi Hendrix in which someone said along the lines of "we've all seen the videos now and it seems old hat, but if you were there in that crowd seeing this wild man setting his guitar alight, it would have blown your mind".The Beatles were doing things that had never been done before, they were prog rock before prog rock existed.
