well, has the dark itself ever killed or harmed anyone?

(I get scared in the dark sometimes too - though it's usually imagined intruders not the dark itself... not that imagining intruders isn't also irrational)

Cheese. Cheese is bad and wrong. Can't put cheese in my mouth (except occasionally cooked cheese). If I'm having dinner with someone and they eat cheese, to me it's as though they ate someone else's sick - major turn-off. My irrational fear is what happens if I'm somewhere like a work-related lunch or out to dinner and I suddenly realise the thing in my mouth that looked like something else is actually cheese. Palpitations thinking about the consequences actually - would I projectile vomit instantly, or would I be able to swallow it whole while gagging and sweating profusely? Would I be able to continue the meal without having to leave to brush my teeth? Nightmare.

I'm so afraid of slugs and snails; quite irrational. Years ago I was at a business lunch once where one of my guest ordered, and ate, a plate of snails. I made an excuse to leave the table, went outside into the fresh air, and physically shook. I returned 10 minutes later (when the first course had been cleared) but, suffice it to say, it wasn't one of my best days.

James Joyce called cheese 'corpse of milk' and unless I'm wrong didn't the narrator of Kerouac's On The Road Sal Paradise say something about intellectuals having a 'corpse in their mouths'?

Maybe Ms B you should stop reading so much. And take it nice and cheesey. Or not. You may not give Edam.

That's hardly an irrational fear, Steve - not that I'm doubting your skills as a father, you understand! - it's a very natural and rational worry.

Standing close to the edge of a cliff, roof etc. It's as though I might panic and have a sudden uncontrollable urge to take one step too far.

Talking of which, I got a taxi from work to London Bridge the other night and the driver said, is that the station or shall I stop in the middle of the bridge so you can jump off? Nice.

I have that fear too Ms B. The edges of high things make me feel very funny.

I have an irrational fear about my 5 year old child. she is really into cutting things out, and generally just cutting stuff like dolls hair, her duvet cover and anything that's nice and thin and gives a satisfying cut with her crappy kiddy scissors.

I am now convinced that she will become a self harmer as a teenager.

I see that as a positive trait with your child mightyroar, perhaps she will become an accountant and cut the rate of taxes for her clients.

She may progress to the banking fraternity and cut interest rates.

She may become a dress designer/tailors cutter.

A new Banksy cutting out collages.

Can I have her autograph before she gets famous.....

I'm also scared of something hiding under the toilet seat and biting my behind. I have to lift the lid and check.

This has saved me a few times. The worst one was in Thailand. We were on a river cruise and I'd been holding on for about four hours. We got to our hotel on the banks of the river and I ran to the toilet. Did my whole lifting the lid thing and a spider bigger than my hand ran up the toilet lid and out the window.

I didn't need to go to the toilet after that.

    • Wow, well served with local supermarkets then…  Agree with ATM.. good c position to been mugged or cloned card - prob why not been considered before. Wasn’t there one outside post office and still  is2where people were abit nervous of using? Hope I am wrong but won’t see me rushing to use it…sure lots of folk will benefit thou. Not a great fan or user of Iceland but when it closed years ago people complained..  Guess they only b look at bigger sites - can’t recall an express one but a pity to those who frequent the store. Strange that Tesco can use it as local but Iceland can’t - guess it is  power of large supermarkets. Personally would have  loved an Aldi or Lidl but  clearly site to small. Only grocery stores left to come are Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl…
    • I'm paying £31 pcm for full fibre 300, whatever that is. I'm not sure it's a particularly good deal now, but I did a comparison at the time I went onto it, and it was then. I don't have a landline any more, and my mobile is with iD, who piggyback off 3. I don't usually have any problems,  except once a few years back when the whole 3  network (?) went  down for quite a long time.
    • I have Plusnet too.   I recently (August) had some problems with WiFi connection on different days but and the turning off and turning on didn’t work.  The WiFi didn’t work for quite a few hours - overnight in one case but eventually rectified itself.   Would be interested to know how much other people pay for Plusnet. I also have a landline with them as the mobile signal is bad inside house.  That is with EE and I want to change from them to another provider.
    • That's terrible 🤬 Was it the same company both times?
