cdonline
Had to listen to the chappie, who used to service our lifts at work, bang on about how safe they were. He is now no longer able to work. Some kind of freak accident with a lift. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4030-irrational-fears/page/2/#findComment-128044 Share on other sites

CamberwellOz
I always hate getting into bed. My heart rate goes up and I have to close my eyes because I think a hand will come out and grab my leg. It doesn't matter what bed. All beds have evil men lying in wait underneath them. I feel quite uneasy talking about it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4030-irrational-fears/page/2/#findComment-128053 Share on other sites

Asset
CamberwellOz, I have the same thing, really bad as a child but I still sometimes get the fear and have to jump onto the bed. SteveT
Fear of falling, which as a child used to wake me up in the middle of the night.Standing in the centre of a vertical pile of tyres which falls over and traps me, binding my arms so I cannot move.Being a homeless down and out.Dogs big enough to savage me.Fear of failure, which effects what I am willing to try. indiepanda
I used to have nightmares about being trapped in a burning building - not being impossible to get out but so paralysed by fear I couldn't move. I have no idea why, never been in a fire, or know anyone who has.Now I seem to have nightmares about being executed. All those nasty news stories about people being caught and beheaded in Iraq.... Annasfield
Tripping over and smashing my teeth out on the pavement. I often think about this and it's horrible. Also, when I lived with my Dad his staircase went round a corner and there was mini landing with a window. I always imgained falling down the stairs and going head first through the window, slitting my throat on the way through. :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4030-irrational-fears/page/2/#findComment-128229 Share on other sites

annaj
Snow (as I think I've said before, on another thread, but I can't remember which one)Don't know why, and I recognise that it really is irrational, but it makes me really anxious. bigbadwolf
I have been in a falling lift. In 2006 the company I was with (kELTBRAY) was carrying out the soft strip internal gut out of the former home office Queen Annes gate in Westmenster and during the early stages we were in a lift overloaded with large pipes being taken down to be cut up. On the 5th floor something failed and we fell. It's not a fluid journey because the safety grips kick in. You rapidly fall in stages i.e 5th you start falling then BANG you stop for about a second at the 4th and then so on until you get to the bottom, still very violent and scary especially as it happened in total darkness. That however is an extreme circumstance of a stupidly overloaded lift, at normal capacity if the cable were severed the safety system invented by Mr Otis will firmly lock the lift in place until such time as you can be rescued.I'm also scared of:Bank statements.Deep murky water.Impotence. I lie awake as well staring at the door handle of the bedroom door to turn by itself and in walks......well I shudder to think. When I come home to an empty house the first place I check is UNDER THE BED. I kid you not. Then the wardrobe. sounds crazy but tis true. It's exhausting sometimes.
